We’ll beat India and England will beat Australia, you heard it here first.

  • 32

At tea, with England still well and truly on top having sent Australia in. But with Haddin and Johnson looking good, there’s just a sliver of hope for Australian fans that they can get the total up to something vaguely competitive. Vaguely.

    Match status at Centurion.

9.40 am: Good morning and welcome to ESPNcricinfo’s coverage of India’s tour of South Africa. In an ideal world, the sun would be shining in Centurion, the sky azure and the clouds absent. But it isn’t an ideal world, is it?

    Match begins in: 0:47

Anderson to Haddin, OUT, Anderson strikes but it looks a horrid shot. If it came off we’d be cheering but as it is, this is a gift. Well outside off stump at a drive-me length, Haddin threw his arms at it, leaning back, head up, and off the edge it went high to Swann at second slip clasped onto the catch above his head
    BJ Haddin c Swann b Anderson 53 (80b 6×4 1×6) SR: 66.25

It rained during the night. It rained in the morning. Some parts of the boundary had significant amounts of water on it. I’ve (George Binoy) had word that Firdose Moonda, our South Africa correspondent, is driving from Jo’burg to Centurion and the roads are flooded. Bad scene.

  • 36

@ superBul:34 – Australia in big trouble now Super. They needed Haddin to stay in.

England are playing great down under.

How is the weather for our game later Super? Looked at the weather now and it says full rain for today in Pretoria.

What the heck has happened to our great summer weather this year? Not going to complain much before I know the dreadful humidity will be back with the heat 😀 Today just rain again here in Umhlanga.

    Anderson to Harris, OUT
    RJ Harris b Anderson 3 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

    @ Puma:
We need a wet year again, things are a bit dry up here and down at BW.

    59.5
Anderson to Harris, OUT, and another one goes, Harris’s brief foray into runscoring ends with an excellent yorker, squeezes under the bat and knocks back off stump. Anderson celebrates in Johnson’s direction, telling him to “shhh”
    RJ Harris b Anderson 3 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

@ superBul:38 Okay see comments are open again. Yes we need the rain and plenty of it. Just during the cricket 😀 Damn been waiting like crazy for this series against the India now see there will be rain for most of the 5 days for the Centurion test. What a shame that would be.

We should have our cricket during the winter months where there is hardly any rain.

Super your post 28. Australia will never ever fall out totally from cricket. They have such a huge, huge pool of players down there. Oz need to start selecting some more of their talented youngsters and build a great team again. They will I have no doubt about it, they will never ever fall away like WI did. Cricket is their number one sport over there.

9.55 am: The toss was supposed to happen at 10.00 am but that’s not going to happen. In fact, we might be lucky if it happens at all today. Sidharth Monga says play is unlikely. If that’s the case, India have a tiny silver lining: Zaheer Khan has another day to try and get fit. Trying to see what South Africa’s silver lining is …

  • 41

@ Puma:39 – Meant, Just NOT during the cricket. (The Rain) 😀

  • 42

@ superBul:40 – Super, I feel disappointed that we wont see our test start today. Looked forward to it for such a long, long time.

  • 43

    @ Puma:
    39
i dont know why the comments was closed, something weird.

The Australians are panicking , they have used 9 spinners since Warne retired. There is even guys asking him to come back. They are in a mess now. Look they had a invincible team and too many retired within 2 years. They need patience to rebuild. But do they have it?

  • 44

Puma there is a lot of people disappointed, i just read this comment.

“So excited for this series, really going to be brilliant and far more competitive than the Ashes. Here’s to Steyn, Morkel and co. sending Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman into an early retirement! Let the battle begin,” says Zubair via email, bracing for a volley of angry replies. He, as do we, will have to wait though for any battles to begin.

  • 45

Mike Haysman has gone inside the tent protecting the pitch. There are heaters in there, keeping the surface warm. There is grass on the pitch and it’s dry. He says it feels like a sauna. So the pitch is OK. The outfield and the weather, though, isn’t. The forecast is better for tomorrow and day after. Clutching at straws.

  • 46

10.35 am: The groundsman, Hilbert Smith, says we can play about three hours after the rain stops. It needs to stop though … Again, the forecast for tomorrow is brighter.

  • 47

    70.3
Finn to Johnson, OUT, gone! Finn gets the breakthrough with another shortish one tempting Johnson to pull, but his shot flies straight to Anderson at square leg, where he takes a simple catch.
    MG Johnson c Anderson b Finn 62 (93b 8×4 1×6) SR: 66.66

@ superBul:44 – Agree with him there Super. This is going to be a almight battle between the numer one and two sides in the world. BUT the weather is not playing ball. Don’t expect to see a full 5 days here in Durban either. Today the rain just keeps falling and plenty yesterday too. Wont complain about the rain as we need it but for the cricket we don’t. Should have winter cricket here, for sure then the rain wont spoil it. That is our dry months. Cricket would be a guarantee then.

For me with the rain here would have loved to just sit back and relax and watch the cricket. Pity. BUT enjoying watching the Eng/Oz game. Hope Oz can bowl better would like to see a good test in Perth.

  • 49

@ superBul:43 – Super, Have to have a laugh there, just heard them say earlier it would be great to see Warnie back..hehe. Actually they should bring him back in some sort of capacity. Coach, motivator or something. He was the very best spin bowler ever. A true match winner he was.

When I was over there in Oct told a few okes that I thought Ricky should be dropped as captain. NONE agreed with me to my surprise, but think they are now.

  • 50

    @ Puma:
I can not recall any spoiled test by rain in SA for the last 4 to 5 years. Maybe it is our turn. Sri Lanka and WI also had it last month.

  • 51

This partnership is a disaster for England. They are bowling stupid now.
    Current partnership 34 runs, 4.5 overs, RR: 7.03 (Hilfenhaus 13, Siddle 21)

“Despite the rain, I’m still somewhat positive after seeing the swimming pool that was Wanderers last year in the series against England. It was covered in water, but in a very short time it was just fine for playing,” says Kaspar. Drainage in Centurion is good too, but it’s still raining.

  • 52

@ superBul:51 – Super, I know the drainage at Centurion is very good, but the weather forecast is for rain for the rest of today up there. Then they can get that wrong. For most of the 5 days rain is forecast. This will be a draw I think.

  • 53

England have their work cut out now to survive. More than 10 overs to face until stumps.

Australia posted a good score at the end. 268 is not bad at all.

Cheers Super, out of here now.

    Catch up later.

  • 56

    @ superBul:
Good morning superBul and Puma, don’t have TV access to this game, but just wondering if the Aussie lower managed to score so many runs then has the wicket flattened out now, if so then surely if the England batsmen play sensibly then they should get through the rest of the day without much bother?

  • 57

England lucky , Strauss was dropped on 0

  • 58

    @ Bullscot:
    56
they played one day shots almost all in the air, just throw caution to the wind. Johnston is no mug with the bat, he just jumped the gun a bit.

  • 59

11.20 am: Sid Monga brings better news. The rain has stopped. The bad weather is clearing. It is brighter and the drainage is at work. He says the outfield already looks much drier.

  • 60

    @ superBul: 58
ok, yes sometimes that is the best way to dig yourself out of a hole, and if it comes off then its great and I guess against the mostly pace bowling the ball was flying in all directions off the bat quite quickly.
