New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat
    Stumps – Day 1

The batting was slow here, McIntosh made his 102 off 254 balls compared to Smith 100 of 152 balls.

Wahab Riaz to Amla, OUT, Amla’s gone, late and important breakthrough for Pakistan, he played away from his body to an unthreatening ball outside off, he gets a thin edge to the keeper, Adnan Akmal, who celebrates his first Test victim

Both teams have agreed to play under lights in this series, so we will have 90 overs of play everyday. The lights are on now. More importantly the new ball has been taken

  • 11

Umar Gul to Harris, no run, slanting down the leg side, Harris jumps across the stumps and then tries to get some bat on the ball but misses

    Commentary on Cricinfo-
Peter: “Smith passed Border for leading runs as captain and Kallis did the same for total runs… I love it when SA gets the better of Australia.”

  • 13

The batsmen have been offered the light, they take it and it will be stumps. Clearly, this has been South Africa”s day. Already 311 for 3, and they still have Kallis at the crease, with the AB de Villiers, Prince and Boucher to come.

I thought they said 90 overs will be bowled, anyway a good show by SA. I hoped for a score around 350-360 but they slowed down to much in the last 10 overs. Last 10 ovs 28/1 RR 2.80

  • 14

Tobias from Zimbabwe: “Following up on the comment about Kallis having scored more runs and having taken more wickets than the entire Pakistan team… He has also held more catches than the entire Pakistani eleven.”

Hello folks, got home from Morgenzon in Mpumalanga at 04:05 this morning… slept till 08:30… and since then things have moved rather quickly here at the office.

    What a total collapse. 😯

  • 24

After a great start thought we could get over 500 🙄 now we will be lucky to get a few more runs after lunch.

  • 25

    @ Puma:
380 will now be a miracle.
Dont want to blame anybody but we batted negatively and never took their bowlers on. Kallis is just Kallis, he on his own mission and to hell with his team mates, they must look after themselves.

  • 26

Lets hope the tail enders can get us to 400,its a pity that we collapsed, would have been great to get to 500.

  • 27

Agreed Super,Kallis is a legend but you have to say that on many times during his career he seemed to bat for his average and not what was best for the team.. But its tough to chirp one me the greatest players of all time.

  • 28

    @ Winston:
I really dont want to debate his commitment its just that he gets so focussed on what he does that he sometimes forget who his batting partners are.

  • 29

Pakistan have completed a fine comeback here. 307 for 2 has become 380 all out.

  • 30

@ superBul:25 – Super, Pity about this collapse thought we were onto make over 500. Then I am not surprised that is the Proteas for you.

We need to bowl smart now.
