I personally think these guys didn’t see Bismarck play this weekend.

Die verwagtinge oor Spies laat my dink aan daardie film oor William Wallace (Braveheart), en al die legendes wat oor hom vertel is (“firing the English with canonballs from his ass”). Sekeres in SA verwag dat elke keer as die man die bal kry hy van sy eie doellyn moet begin hardloop, 5 ouens afstamp, nog 5 moet systap, nog 5 moet weghardloop en laastens, maar nie die minste nie, moet hy met die sewe reserwes op sy rug (wat kom help het) in die hoekie moet druk. Wonder of daar nie ook later verwag gaan word dat hy sommer self ook pale toe moet skop nie, anders moet hy ‘gedrop’ word ? 😉
Alhoewel Spies nie sy beste jaar gehad het nie, word hy regoor die wêreld beskou as een van die beste agstemanne in die wêreld, lyk my dit is net in SA waar die provinsialisme nog hoogty vier, selfs tydens die bokseisoen.
Dit gesê, Alberts is ‘n grootte en ‘n yster, sal geen probleem hê as hy ook speel nie, ons het goeie agstemanne.
Spies, soos ander spelers het blapse gehad, so ook Morne en Lambie en Zane en Gio, maar dit is te verstane onder die nat toestande en die groot druk van die dag. Oor die algemeen ‘n goeie wen. Ja, ons kon en moes verder gewen het, maar onder die nat omstandighede en al die veranderings aan die einde, het ons goed gedoen.
Hoop net JDV is reg vir Saterdag, sal hom saamm met FS op senter wil sien, met Zane op heelagter. Die res van die span kan dieselfde bly.

I think the question surrounding the No 3 will be answered when SA play England.
Cole destroyed Woodcock with a superior technique, something which SA’s Tight Head props / coaches seem to have discarded in favour of size.
The England front row never weakened when their reserves came on, which is not always the case with the Bokke.
Still haven’t gotten around to watching the Taffies v Wallabies, so can’t comment on any of those 30 palookas.
Juan Smith was massive (as always).
Although the Bokke didn’t win by many, given that the majority of us thought (at least in our hearts) that the Paddies would snatch this game, and the absolutely terrible weather, I for one will take the victory with open arms.
Now, abut PdeV’s substitution policy. Anyone got a few hours?

Regarding tighthead prop… I suppose one can only judge on the games already played this weekend, but I mentioned on Saturday that the Poms and Wales had very strong scrums and forwards in general.
I’m by no means past my worry for the rest of the Bokke Grand Slam Tour, but took a lot of heart from the Bokke forwards performance.
The backline is a worry though, and NOOOO sign of good coaching from Muir there.
The subs were terrible, when Jean was subbed on Saturday, I commented on the game thread… if it ain’t broken, why fix it….
The combination of Adi coming on, Stegmann subbed for Daniel (a quiet hard worker replaced for a flashy and looser player), with Lambie already having subbed Morné… destroyed all rhytm on defence and nearly cost us the game.
For years we have seen these daft Bokke subs under Snorrie now, and it repeats costing us on the field of play. His excuses / reasoning for subbing just does not wash well and I hate it when it happens… every time.
Naas Botha usually says something to the effect of “Fresh legs, frozen brains” when he talks about subs… and I agree with him, getting subbing right is an art.. like the Stringer PLUS O’Gara subs by Ireland.. it almost paid off big time.
Anyway, let me be on my bicycle to Midrand… work to do, few hours left.
