First-five Matt Berquist will play for the Crusaders in next season’s inaugural Investec Super Rugby competition.

Berquist comes to the Crusaders from the Highlanders. He is currently playing for Auckland in the ITM Cup competition and has also played for Hawke’s Bay and Otago.

Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder said: “We are very happy to have secured Matt for next season. Matt is a very good all-round player and an excellent goalkicker. We’re sure he will fit in at the Crusaders very well.”

The Crusaders have also re-signed wing Zac Guildford and halfback Kahn Fotuali’i.

“Both Zac and Kahn played very well for the Crusaders last season. It was Zac’s first season with us and he impressed me with his work ethic and ability. Kahn has been with us since 2007 and he had a stand-out year last year,” added Blackadder.

Guildford and Fotuali’i, both Hawke’s Bay players, will join fellow Magpie fullback Israel Dagg at the Crusaders next season.
