Man, one does not need news like this…. Blue Bulls prop, Bees Roux, was arrested this morning alledgedly for beating a Tswane Metro Cop to death.

He has yet to appear in Court.

“I believe there was an incident where a policeman died, passed away, and I know [he] was involved in the incident. How he was involved I don’t know yet, I can’t tell you,” said attorney Ernst Serfontein.

An advocate was consulting the player at the Sunnyside police station on Friday morning and it was possible he could appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court later in the day, or on Monday.

Earlier, the club said it was aware of “the alleged involvement of a player in an incident involving a policeman who died”.

“We do not have any factual information at this stage, but have been informed that the policeman passed away,” Blue Bulls Rugby said in a statement issued by Ian Schwartz, who is on its media relations team.

Allegedly beaten to death

“We would like to express our sincerest condolences to the relatives of the deceased. We are not in a position to make any further comments in this regard.”

A Tshwane metro police officer was allegedly beaten to death in the early hours on Friday, according to paramedics.

Colonel Eugene Opperman said a case of murder had been opened but would give no further details.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics found the critically injured police officer lying in the middle of Schoeman Street.

The officer died moments later of extensive injuries.

The Blue Bulls will play the Pumas at Nelspruit’s Mbombela stadium on Friday night.

Too early to speculate about anything… we do not know the facts.

It is not our place to condemn or judge… just to absorb the reality of the news!

But all we can or should do at this stage is lament the incident ever happening… when our rugby family hurts, we as supporters hurt….

I hope that this is not true what he is being accused of, but as the other folk said lets first get the facts.

    Op News24

Cape Town – The Blue Bulls rugby player who was arrested allegedly in connection with the death of a Metro cop was still on top of the deceased when cops responded to a complaint of assault in Pretoria, a police spokesperson has said.

“The suspect was on top of the deceased when police arrived on the scene,” Captain Katlego Mogale told News24.

Mogale said the metro cop was in his “full uniform” at the time of the incident.

“He was pulled off and an ambulance was called,” she said.

The suspect was arrested and is currently at the Sunnyside police station and a case of murder is being investigated, she said.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha told News24 that when paramedics arrived on the scene the deceased was already dead.

“He had a massive injury to the head. I don’t know what they used (to hit him),” he said.

Botha said there was blood on the road where the body was lying. “It looks like his head hit the tar road.”

The incident happened on Schoeman Street in Hatfield, Pretoria in the early hours of Friday.

Eish!!!! Not good at all!! Think about the headlines of overseas newspapers…….

Not good for anybody and espescially SA rugby!

    Not good news this.

Sad when someone has to die this way really. Beaten to death!! Awful man, what goes on in the minds of some South Africans. Terrible.

After a fantastic world cup when we all became one then this now. Not good at all. Just hope they don’t bring rugby into this. If he did do it it is one individual and not rugby.

Feel really sad for the family of the cop that died.

Still we need to wait and get proper facts first to really judge.

Jacob Mogale was the name of the deceased cop…

I went to Loftus this afternoon, to pick up my Springbok match Media card for tomorrow.. and asked Marguerite Prinsloo, new Bulls Media Representative, if they had more news on this issue… they have only just as much info as we have.. rightly so the cards are being kept close to the chest by those involved as well as their representatives.

Blue Bulls rugby player Jacobus “Bees” Roux will spend the weekend behind bars after being accused of killing a Tshwane Metro Police officer.

Details of the incident had not yet been released by Friday afternoon, but it was understood the officer was killed after the Bulls prop had been pulled over for suspected drunken driving in the early hours of the morning.

It’s understood three officers were patrolling Hatfield when they spotted Roux driving his car erratically.

After pulling him over they realised he may have been drunk. Eyewitness News understands Roux then negotiated with the officers who then agreed to drive him home.

Sergeant Ntshimane Mohale had apparently been driving Roux’s car with the Blue Bull as a passenger when an altercation took place.

It is believed he was severely assaulted, and was declared dead when paramedics arrived on the scene.

Roux is expected to appear in court on Monday.
