An injury to New Zealand referee Bryce Lawrence will see the Wallabies match against the Springboks being controlled by a different referee to the one that was planned.

For the third week in a row the Springboks will have an Irish referee – this time in George Clancy.

The Springboks were vocal in their complaints about the way in which last week’s referee Allain Rolland controlled the game and had been expecting a Southern Hemisphere.

All Black’s coach Graham Henry said after last week’s match that his team had faired better against the Springboks as his team had adapated to the rules better and were therefore coping better with the referee who have been from the Northern Hemisphere.

Clancy is familiar with Southern Hemisphere rugby as he controlled the match between New Zealand’s All Blacks and Wales at Carisbrook in Dunedin, New Zealand on Saturday the 19th June 2010.

Come on Mr Ref, all we want is a fair game, give us that this weekend!

  • 2

If he is crap I will hunt him down!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3

So we get another NH ref. Well just heard we will have.

Nigel Owens for the Abs game at Soccer City
Allain Rolland for the Aus test in Pretoria
Wayne Barnes for the Aus test in Bloem

From what I have heard too is that the Aussies and ABs will have saffa refs for their games!!!!!!! Not sure which of our refs to ref them. Now how the heck do we get all NH refs? How did they get all SH refs? Just a thought. As I think the saffa refs are the best in the world. Also they reffed the S14 none of the NH refs reffed S14. Sort of a advantage for them I think. Well kinda. If it is all true.

Okay just looked it up and it seems all true.

    Aus/NZ: Melbourne – Graig Joubert
    NZ/Aus: Christchurch – Jonathan Kaplan
    Aus/NZ: Sydney – Mark Lawrence.

So tell me now how can this be a happy set up, with the players AND supporters that we get NH refs and they get the very best from South Africa? I don’t like it one bit.
Not fair I think. When you consider that none of these NH refs reffed in the S14. Advantage for Aus and NZ straight away here.

I hate to complain about the refs but we have had two weeks of bad reffing from NH refs, especially that they never reffed in the S14.

Rub of the green, Puma… just our dumb luck, I suppose!

  • 6

@ grootblousmile:5 – Gbs, No rub of the green there I feel. How the heck can we get all NH refs for all of our games? Jeepers not right with me that is for sure. They get all Saffa refs for their games? Why the heck we get all the NH refs and not even one SH ref? Well we did have one and he is now not going to ref this weekend. Bryce Lawrence as much as I think he is useless BUT he reffed in the S14 and would be far, far better suited to ref in the Tri-Nations.

    6@ Puma:
Give me a prediction for this Saturday Puma….

  • 8

  • 9

@ grootblousmile:7 – Gbs, I want to say Boks where my heart lays but think it will be the Aussies. Then you never know we might win this one by blowing them away. That could happen.

  • 10

@ KingPaul:8 – KingPaul, I feel the same boeta. How the heck they get the best refs in the world and we get NH refs that never even reffed in the S14? Not right with me, very angry about this. We should have had SH refs who reffed in the S14 to ref all the Tri-Nations games.

How can we have A. Rolland back and especially in SA after he messed up so bad this past weekend. Also BARNES!!!!! He is even worse I feel.

  • 11

    8@ KingPaul:
    Hello Koninkie!

    9@ Puma:
Let me give you my early take:

We will have about 40% possession only, due to the loosie’s selection farkup.

We should be able to kill them in the scrums but won’t.

Their backline is potent when they fire… if they fire.

We will see more of the same game plan from the Bokke, needless kicking and bad rucking…

I think we will lose this one.

  • 12

@ grootblousmile:11 – Gbs, My feeling too we will lose. Hope I am wrong. Also I am worried about our loose trio, probably everyone is. Hope they prove us wrong (the loose trio) But how can we have Kanko at 7??????????? If they wanted to keep Spies in the side maybe he should have played there and Kanko at 8. Need a strong ball carrier, someone that will make up ground for us there. Not sure if Kanko is the player for that. I would have played: Kanko at 8 – Burger at 7 and Potties at 6. Spies on the bench for this week.

Anyhow they can prove us wrong and play the best ever. Just doubt it. Our scrums may suffer cause of it too. Probably will. Hope not.

    12@ Puma:
Against the Ozzies, I would have played a loosie combo of Schalla – No 6, Francois Louw – No 7 and Dewald Potgieter – No 8……….. 3 excellent tacklers to handle the abrasive and big Ozzie loose trio…. and a better combo altogether to compete for all breakdown situations.

None of the 3 are weak in carrying the ball up too and none of the 3 shy away from hard graft, whereas I feel that Kanko and Spies does.

Dewald Potgieter’s hands behind a scrum is better than those of Spies as well.

If we beat the Ozzmob, the foundation MUST be set in the forwards because I think they have a better attacking backline than us.

  • 14

@ grootblousmile:13 – Gbs, Well you talking of if they were there. Flo and Ricky has come home so I was selecting players in Oz.

Think it is a pity we don’t have Brussow. I know he is out injured but he is missed. Burger was superb for Stormers and is still out there giving his best but think we need a Brussow or Stegmann at 6.

  • 15

    14@ Puma:
No, I know they have not been selected… but that’s what I would have done.

Amazed the opposition who is played is not better considered.

Against the All Blacks you fetch and ruck them stukkend (which was not done), whereas against the Ozzies you select size and hard grafters to attack their forwards, who are not of the best.

In stead we choose runners and players who excel in the loose against the Ozzmob who use runners and players who combine well with their own backline…. amazingly stupid!

  • 16

@ grootblousmile:15 – Gbs, You are correct there, we are playing to their hands by playing a similar game to them, we will come short I think. Remember the Sharks against the Reds last year? Well we tried to run it from everywhere and come short and lost by a lot. Think our Boks selected here are selected just for that. For a attacking game. Must say our backline once Ruan came on last week did look far, far better and we really played well in that period. Not sure about our loosies here gbs, think this is where we may come short. Then Spies and Kanko have pure pace once given space. So who knows maybe we can. Not sure though just hoping.

We lose this one we out of this competition for sure. We win it that game against the ABs at Soccer City is going to be war…hahaha. Cause then it could still be game on. Especially if the Aussies take the ABs in Melbourne next week. I like a close Tri-Nations and not one running away with it. Like it to be really competitive until the end from all the 3 countries.

  • 17

    16@ Puma:
I think the tri-Nations is now gone for us because I do not see the All Blacks losing to the Wallabies.

…. but there is plenty to play for…

We can improve our play, systems, cohesion, game plans… figure out exactly who is our best candidates in specific positions and take the All Blacks and Ozzies at home in all 3 games which will take the lustre off the All Blacks if we laugh last.

  • 18

@ grootblousmile:17 – Well the Reds did beat some of the better sides from NZ in the S14. Some very good players in that Aussie side from the Reds. Also Melbourne is a tough place to play. Think the ABs lost there the last time they played Aus. So who knows they could lose to Aus in Melbourne and Sydney one never knows. Just as long as we win all our home games I will be pleased.

Then hope next year we get a test in Durban. Though kinda like all the tests played up at altitude. Makes it hard for the other team. Only if our players get to train up there for at least 2 weeks. We have been away from altitude for a few weeks now and some of our players are based at sea level.

  • 19

Cheers Gbs, I am out of here now. Catch up tomorrow.

  • 20

    19@ Puma:
    Cheers Oom Puma, nice chatting.

  • 21

Although I also worry about our loose trio, I still believe we will smash them !!!

  • 22

We don’t have a true fetcher but neither have the Aussies…

  • 23

    Looking at the positive side…

If this game gets loose, wich seems likely the likes of Spies and Kanko might just be to potent for the Aussies…

They have a lot more gas than their Aussie counter parts…

  • 24

So, in short, all your negative okes, we’ll speak again 😉

  • 25

The Bokke have a chance to redeem themselves and I think it might just happen this weekend…

Granted the ref does’nt officiate the game like a moron again …

  • 27

When did Lawrence get his injury as I thought the Irish ref had always been pencilled in to ref this game.

    Please advise!

  • 28

    Blouste

The wallabies have pocock as a fetcher…if the boks have the same belief as you then the boks will be in for a surprise…he has pilfered many a ball.

  • 29

    @ Wallabie.:

Do you rate him as a fetcher, lets say above Burger ?

  • 30

Burger is more of a ball carrier and a spoiler in the ruck area.

As a fetcher pocock I would rate above Burger.

Burger is somewhat more versatile but Pocock is employed as a fetcher so is doing his job.
