Vuvuzelas might be a major part of this year’s Soccer World Cup, but they will play no part in rugby’s showpiece event next year in New Zealand.
According to the Rugby World Cup website, “airhorns or sound amplifiers including loudhailers” and “musical instruments” and “whistles” are prohibited from next year’s venues.
The horns, originally a South African phenomenon, have been selling worldwide since the start of the Soccer World Cup.
Christchurch’s AMI Stadium bosses are also considering a ban on vuvuzelas.
According to The Press website, VBase chief executive Bryan Pearson said a decision would be made before the Bledisloe Cup match on August 7 in Christchurch.
“We haven’t made any decisions. We would be concerned about the potential for them to spoil the experience for fans at the stadiums,” he said.
“Given the experience at the Soccer World Cup, I can’t see that that sort of deafening drone is going to be in any way well received by fans at AMI Stadium.”
Thank Goodness… it was fun having Vuvuzelas in Soweto during the 2 Super 14 matches there, and it suited the venue and occasion.
But the drone of these monotonous instruments during the SWC matches have been enough on the ears…
Good, it is a very unpleasant and irritateing sound, i like to hear people cheering and jeering.
Else you just hear the commentator and bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the whole time.

lol…jip, ek het baie bollie van party op die forum gekry to ek se ek haat die demm goed gedurende daai laaste S14 games. Al waarvoor die Vuvu goed voor is, is as n beer bong of om petrol in jou kar te gooi 🙂

btw…hoe lyk die provisiale spanne vir die Currie beker die jaar? Ek neem aan baie van die bokke gaan gerus word vir die RWC..So hoe staan die spanne te staan minus hulle bokke?
