Bulls lock Bakkies Botha was cited for a charging into a ruck during his team’s Super 14 match against the Stormers at Newlands Stadium, in Cape Town.
Citing Commissioner Freek Burger cited Botha under Law 10.4 (h) for dangerously and recklessly entering a ruck without using his arms or grasping a player.
Botha made contact with Stormers right wing Gio Aplon in the second minute of the match. Aplon required treatment on the field as a result. The Stormers won the match, 38-10.
Botha will attend a judicial hearing at 13h00 on Monday, 17 May 2010, at the offices of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union in Pretoria.

1 – Blouste, Don’t fret man, Bulls have Flip. Bulls have won just about everything this tourney without Bakkies. They will be fine mate.
Bulls locks should be Vic and Danie Pakslae or Vic and Flip….. Bakkies is not up to scratch yet and has in my opinion been surpassed by both Danie Pakslae and Flip van der Merwe anyway.
So, there’s enough depth in the Bulls if Bakkies is suspended for some weeks.
GBS, I agree, Bakkies is no longer Numero Uno. I think they should suspend him for 6 months, give him enough time to pray for his sins. That charge was blatant and stupid.
4@ Boerboel – Rugby is nie vir sussies nie, so alhoewel ek voel Bakkies issie meer die voorste No 4 slot nie, glo ek ook mens moet toelaat dat behoorlik en robuust skoongemaak word.
In die ou dae was so clean-out wettig, ek sien nie hoekom moet dit verander nie.

Bakkies was nog altyd my eerste keuse, maar raak hy regtig stupid, en my mening het absoluut niks met Stormers of Gio Aplon uit te waai nie. Bakkies was onverantwoordelik, punt.

Die probleem vir Bakkies is soos die probleem wat JP Nel ook gehad het , hy is nou getag as vuil en al word hy n non gaan hulle hom nooit vergewe nie.
Ek het ook die hand gesien wat hy op geleun het toe hy ingaan , maar soos ek se hy is nou onder die vergrootglas. Nag vir hom.
Dink ons moet die Manne waarsku hulle loop die laaste 2 kilometer na Orlando as hulle hom nie genadig is nie. Dink nie dat iemand dit graag wil doen nie. 😀

Aplon het ook lyk my vir n Oscar gemik, geen nagevolge nadat dit gelyk het of hy dood is.
Die standaard reaksie as Bakkies jou tackle is le doodstil op jou rug en kyk of hy nie gekaart word nie.

In the old days, some of the real baddies in rugby sharpened the metal extra long screw-in studs on their boots to inflict more damage than necessary…. I never did that, I just selected stud lenght according the condition of the pitch and the weather, which was what you were supposed to do… but as an ex-flanker I bear a couple of scars from stud marks… and a couple of winter-sore fingers and knuckles from participating in a few scraps, which was legal in the day.
We wore no padding, no shoulder pads, no headgear… and definately no stretch pants underneath..
Bakkies has never been a dirty player and neither JP Nel. They have never tried to hurt players either. You can ask any of their team mates – they’ll tell you. This is all just a conspiracy by those damn Stormers. Bakkies was set up and he just fell into the trap. The giveaway is the Stormers placing a small wing like Apron at the ruck. How was Bakkies supposed to resist that?

Personally I think it’s just a technique error… someone should help Bakkies with his clean-out technique a bit more… refine it.
