Usually this is not my style, because The Saint, as I refer to myself in third person, prides himself on delivering original contributions every time.  However, I feel that many of my fellow-Stormers might be flying a bit high, and in the process confuse form with invincibility, and that could be a huge mistake.   I have taken this piece from Fox Sports, just to show, that we, here in the Republic, are the only ones raving about the Stormers, elsewhere, we don’t hardly exist.

Article & Comments originally from Fox Sports – Australia

The Adjudicator says: “Geez, there are some nice games this weekend. And whereas it was hard to find a kind word to say about the first game between the Chiefs and the Cheetahs, this is a different story altogether. The Adjudicator is pumped about this match-up. If you weren’t a believer in the Reds before, then last week should have done the trick for you. It did for me! I’m officially on board the Reds bandwagon. I hope I’m not the kiss of death on them but the finals must be looking very appetising in Brisbane at the moment. Can you imagine the Reds leading three Australian-based teams into the final four? The Stormers have a horrid draw to finish up with so they will be desperate but it’s hard to go past the Reds in this form.”

LATEST COMMENTS FROM FANS

Dorian TK Padgham says: Senor A, I along with many others have jumped on board the Reds bandwagon, as they are the hottest ticket in town at the moment. The champagne rugby they played last week was some of the best I’ve seen in a very, very, long time! ( Wink wink to my Saffa rugby brothers ) – the bulls looked like cows, as the Reds ran them off their pretty hoofs. The big question that seems to be on everyone’s boots is; Are this mongrel group of outcasts and misfits a one-shot-stevie-wonder? Or are they serious title contenders? The Stormers will be the perfect litmus test for this, as it will question them more than a tiger woods judiciary. eds to win at home by 12.

Reds fan Brendan says: This game will be great. Both the Reds and Stormers had great games last weekend. The stormers, on tour, have faced a terrible Force team and lost, beat a team that’s inconsistent (Blues – certainly not the best attacking team this season Thys Coetzer), and then beat a team that can’t win at home (Chiefs). Not to sound like the Bulls fans from last week, but the Stormers haven’t had too much opposition this tour. I’d like to think the Reds will win this game on determination, tactics, the home crowd, and an attacking style of football the Stormers have yet to play against this season. Last week I predicted the Bulls would be pressured into making mistakes because of an ineffective game plan. I’d like to see the same this week with the Stormers.

Reds fan Edward says: Power and Passion two words to describe the Reds performance against the Bulls on the weekend, you could probably throw Predictable in there also. Did you see the grin on Laurie Weaks face at half time!! He didn’t look tired he looked like a man who was enjoying his rugby and wanted more!! This week sees the Reds at there warm home again, the equation is simple – we will be too strong at the break down (By the way bravo Ewen McKenzie – They are getting cleaner ball than the Wallabies) and this will again see Genia and Cooper running riot through the Stormers backline, maul, line-out, fringes of the ruck – well you name it – these boys will make space from nothing and from no where. I am really looking forward to seeing what backline move they go with from the first set play. I bet every backline in the Super 14 has something drop into their undies when they are defending Reds set play, Stormers will be no different. Reds by 18 with a 4 Try BP. C’arn Reds!!.

Reds fan Inkosi says: Well I must say I did enjoy re-reading all those posts from the Week 10 round up! All the hyped up “what are you smoking” comments. After watching the game it looked like the Bulls had had a coof at half time on some good old Durban Poison and didn’t know which way to stumble. What a totally one sided affair. Still was a great game. I think the Stormers game will be a bit closer (seeing that Reds should have had an extra 3 or 4 tries easily – letting the Dutchies off there!) To Ryno Jacobs, Geoff, Ivan Nel, Bulls fan Glenn, Bulls fan Jacques, Raving Bulls fan JP Rheeder, Stormers fan Andrzej Kowalski & Demetri how was that humble pie on Sunday morning?

Reds fan Matt from the Gold Coast says: Ahhhhhh how good it is to finally be able to dust of the QR reds jersy and wear it with pride again! for way to long it has been….. hmmm appears it has shrunk. Could the reds be in with a chance this year? I dare not to dream, for to many years we have been promised so much and been kicked in the face with ineptitude, lack of commitment and passion for what is a proud jersy!! This year however shows us the true reds, a never say die team that actually believs it CAN win against any team, no matter what the score. The reds are finding ways to win where in previous years they found ways to lose. This shall be another tight affair but i think the reds are just showing to much belief and confidence to lose. Reds by 8

Reds fan James of Sydney says: What an effort from the Reds on Saturday. To all those Bulls fans who demonstrated cried and nay-said all last week when the Reds faithful pointed out the strength and heart of the Reds and the over-hyping and over-rating of the Bulls, we salute you. It made the Red’s dominant victory all the sweeter. I only feel sorry for those Reds fans that missed out on seeing the game, (like my good friend Reds fan Geoff who chose to have a romantic evening in with his long time girlfriend Kim rather than watch the game… he picked the wrong night to propose marriage) because they missed a cracker. Stormers fans this week beware, there is a rampaging Red pack and a lightning fast backline heading your way. We bleed Red, because Red is rugby.

I would like to leave some responses to these guys.

TK Padgham: “(R)eds to win at home by 12.” against the team with by far the best points margin, defensive record and only two losses to their name (by 1 and 2 points). I don’t think so. Unless they are super tired from traveling for a full three weeks, but I doubt it.

Reds fan Brendan makes some good points. But allow me to ask him this… by your logic (that the Stormers have only won on tour against poor teams), does that mean that the 7 games the stormers have won was ONLY because the opposition was bad, or because the Stormers were also a little good?

Edward, you make the same mistake as Padgam, you idiot. But instead of repeating myself, let me put it this way. Have a look at the Stormers defense. When the opp. is on the attack from anywhere on the field, they regroup and reorganise the defense really quickly. Plus, you can immediately see how the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines of defense form. Good luck “running riot THROUGH it” and o-ja, a 4 try bp? that would be a first…

Inkosi, what are you talking about 3 or 4 more tries. Again, BEST DEFENSE IN THE COMP!!! Even if the Reds win, it wont be by much!
James, well done, yo uare proud of your team. I am sure so was the Blues supporters after the Bulls game.
Matt, sounds like he is a Stormers fan. So What is the dif between the Stormers and Reds this year? NOTHING. Its gonna be tight, uglier than most think, and could really swing any way. Lets hope it turns out Blue.

The Stormers just have to win. No question’s asked.

  • 3

Most of them are young guys so alot of them are relishing those trips overseas.

You honestly think any of these pasted comments will be read by the contributors themselves.

One answer to them when they are likely to never ever read what was put on here.

The Saint is trying to soothe his patriotic passion by adding these comments.

  • 5

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Are these guys totally bias (one eyed) or just plain stupid?

  • 6

You right we didn’t have much opposition at times but at least we put them away. If the blues were so crap how is it that they managed to beat the bulls. The fittest team will win this Saturday and i think The reds did a bit of to much running.

  • 7

Its complete blue bull bias my friend.

  • 8

The reds didn’t exactly beat the bulls convincingly so what’s The big deal. When The Stormers play them they wouldn’t even know what them.

  • 9

    Good morning SA and abroad,
We better win this years Super competition , next year will be harder. See new post, although it maybe old news to some, i never saw a discussion on it here.

  • 10

    what hit them i mean.

  • 11

Wezwp you guys will beat them, just help me to pick the right margin 15, 25 or more?

  • 12

Well, so far the Reds have put the No 1 (Crusaders) and No 2 (Bulls) both to the sword.

They will not be easy beats, that’s for sure and the Stormers would be foolish not to bring their A-game to the park this week.

Go Stormers, it’s time for the SA Teams to put a few teams out of the running or at least see to it that they get 3rd or 4th position!

    Gary Boshoff

Do the Stormers have what it takes to win the Super 14?

If I have to go by all the messages I received from friends and family in the Western Cape, one would swear that they’ve won the competition already!

I have to admit though, that if the Stormers continue to play the way they did against the Blues and Chiefs they will definitely be in with a chance to make the playoffs.

Notwithstanding this, I am sure that even the most ardent Stormers supporter would admit that there is still the distinct possibility that their season could end in major disappointment given the fact that their next four fixtures will arguably be their toughest of the competition.

Playing the Reds, Crusaders, Sharks and Bulls in succession poses a ‘clear and present danger’ to the Cape team’s hopes of making the playoffs.

  • 14

Stormers just need to keep possession and they should win.

  • 15

Keeping Possession against the Reds is more important than having territorial advantage.

When you play for territory, kick the ball out and stop quick throw-in’s

The Reds specifically kept the Bulls from using line-outs as a base of attack, which also mostly nullified any possible rolling mauls…. that was truly clever.

They have to be forced to play your game, not you playing their game!

  • 16

“When you play for territory, kick the ball out and stop quick throw-in’s”

in other words kick it out near you , so that your players can get there in time to spoil the quick throw in.

  • 17

Ja genade dis hoe hulle die bulle gebreek het!!!! ons het net nei posession gekry nie, en as ons dit gehad het, skop FDP en MS dit sommer weg en nie eers uit nie!!!!!

  • 18

    McKenzie is a shrewd coach.

You people underestimate his contributions to the game plan.

Stormers boast a new challenge for the Reds this week and they will be back with a game plan with new dimentions to it, watch.

Stormers are a great team, but don’t count out the Reds just yet…

  • 19

Stem Blouste, Stormers gaan moet keer die naweek. Maar hulle kan, en hopelik doen hulle dit.

  • 20

    Hi guys,

Look, I’m very happy that the Reds’ fans who have had absolutely nothing to cheer about for many a season, are at last in a position to crow about their team for change. Their team of supposed no-hopers, is playing a brand of rugby that most rugby fans enjoy watching and what’s more, they’re winning with a running style that has been much maligned here in South Africa over the years. So, good on ’em!!

Furthermore, let them get carried away a bit I say. After all, the game has a way of bringing you back to earth, sometimes sooner and sometimes later.

  • 21

In any case, this is like posting a couple of comments from WTR…
In perpective it means nothing really…

  • 22

    Blouste,

    So, the broedertwis continues then?

  • 23

    @ 22 fender – ?????

Please explain, because I don’t know what you mean…

  • 24

    #23 Blouste

This WTR vs RT thing: what is at the heart of it?

  • 25

    More.

    I honestly don’t know.
I don’t even know the people on that thread to be frank.
Only read some statements here aswell and peeked into the site to see what all of it was about.
Still don’t really know, but I know this… There are some Lions fans there that are in serious denial about the current affairs in wich their team finds itself.
Hence my comment towards what all the copied comments of some Reds fans suggests.

Nothing more, nothing less from my side.

GBS, jy hier ? Wi jou iets vra oor ADSL.

  • 28

    😉
