Ryan Kankowski has a broken thumb and will be out for the rest of the Super14

The sharks coach John Plumtree has confirmed that Ryan Kankowski is the miss out on the rest of the Super14 with a broken thumb.

Fortunately for the Sharks this is the only bad news after their victory over the Queensland Reds, The other niggles seem not to be as serious as first thought and the rest for the likes of John Smit (elbow)  and Alistair Hargreaves this coming weekend with the Sharks not in action will be more then welcome and give them time to recover.

On a positive note the Sharks duo is expected to be fit for the clash against the Lions and will also welcome back Johann Muller (hand) and Keegan Daniel ( concussion).

Jean Deysel replaced Kankowski and provided a hard edge to the Sharks pack, with Willem Alberts moving to No 8 and Jacques Botes completing the impressive loose trio. Keegan Daniel is also expected to return from concussion to sit on the bench against the Lions next Saturday.

Kankowski’s ailment will also be setback for the Sharks no 8 from a national perspective. Kankowski had been in impressive form over the opening rounds, and would have provided decent back-up for Pierre Spies.

This is a big blow for Kankowski as he is also set to miss the June internationals and the away leg of the Tri-Nations, but provided he returns to form in the early stages of the Currie Cup, he could feature in the Springboks’ home-leg of the southern hemisphere competition.

a big loss to the sharks

he was one of the few stars when things were not going great

  • 2

Pity, Kanko has been one of the Sharks who stood up to be counted when things were bad…. but maybe the Sharks now need that hard edge which the combination of Deysel and Alberts will provide.

Apart from Goode, the Sharks all had decent games this past weekend… oh and I felt that Wilhelm Steenkamp made a positive impact when he replaced Hargreaves.

    HIyas rudi bro ^5

have to agree , hargreaves has been brilliant , and yes steenkamp did great when he cam on

Sharks left too many points out there, maybe the refs conspired a bit too. But they can not afford to leave bonus points. How they are going to achieve this, eish i dont know. In 8 games so far they could not score 4 tries in a match.

super i agree and the more you lose the harder it becomes

and yes refs played their part in stuffing up the sharks, i mean the reds were allowed to be offsides all game long against the reds, also the reds had slow runners all game long that also caused ruptions

but yes sharks also messed up quite a few chances that came their way

The focus now is going to be so heavily on Genia and Cooper that there will be massive holes elsewhere.

Think this is a huge loss for the Sharks to lose Kanko. He was playing some good rugby. We will once again see what we had once we don’t have it. Just pleased now we have Alberts and Deysel.

Will miss some speed with out Kanko. Somehow feel a bit apprehensive about the game against the Lions. Hope we are ready for that one.

I am now sooooooooo tired… when do we get another long weekend??

    Hahahaha

  • 22

Puma, NO BLOGGING.. Do you feel ok? I can feel a bit ‘shaky’ if I don’t blog!! lol 😉

19 – Howzit Sharky. Feel for Kanko getting this injury now. He was playing really good rugby. Though did drop a few on Saturday. Think against the Lions would have liked Kanko to start. Will miss some speed without him. Though Alberts, Deysel and Botes caused lots of havoc for the Reds. So we are covered there.

Puma we had rain galore, this is going to be a green winter in the bush, i think we had more than 120mm here this week, veld looks green again.

  • 25

Reds might just struggle with the altitude and the lack of clean oxygen up in Joburg. They might even have one foot on the plane after spending some time in there.

Lions might just do something which resembles them losing by less than 20. 😀

21 – Seems like life is one long holiday in SA. Public Holidays everwhere….and it is sunny!

  • 27

puma its a loss mate but we have depth at loose forward so noth a massive loss

also the other injuries are said to be not as bad as initially thought , so smitty and hargreaves and daniel and muller will be back

22 – Blue Bird, Nothing yesterday and today. Only logged on now. Rain here for almost two days. Enjoying it as I know our dry weather is about to start. We get about 5 months of no rain. Sort of starts end of April each year.
