Earlier in the week, there was a question regarding referee criticism, well someone is in hot ware it seems!

Thanks to our friends and allies at Rugbyweek, here is the news:

Brumbies star Matt Giteau could be in line for a suspension and a hefty fine after he criticised referee Steve Walsh after the Brumbies lost to the Waratahs at the weekend.

Giteau was highly critical of Walsh who disallowed a try without going to the TMO in their Sydney 19-12 loss.

The Brumbies are still said to be fuming over Walsh’s performance and are pushing for him to be removed from this weekend’s matches as he is in line to control their match against the Reds.

The Brumbies need to beat the Reds this weekend if they are to stand any chance of reaching the play offs.

Reports suggest that the Brumbies have appealed to SANZAR referees boss Lyndon Bray to drop Walsh for the match but no word from SANZAR has been released yet.

Giteau however could miss the match after he said that there would be no point in the Brumbies turning up against the Reds if Walsh was not stood down.

“I don’t know if we will turn up,” Giteau said on Monday, “What’s the point?”.

“Like everyone who knows rugby, that was a try,” he went on to say about Walsh’s to disallow the try by Brumbies fullback Adam Ashley-Cooper.

The Australian Rugby Union on Tuesday referred Giteau’s comments to the SANZAR secretariat in New Zealand for determination on whether he may have breached the players’ code of conduct.

If Giteau is breached the players’ code of conduct it is likely that he will face a judiciary hearing on Thursday as there is a clause in players’ contracts that they are not to publicly criticise a referee or touch judge’s handling of a match.
