Springbok flanker Wikus Van Heerden is set to play for the Lions for the rest of the S14.
Saracens have agreed to a request by the Lions to release Wikus van Heerden from his contract with immediate effect.
The former Springbok flanker will join the Johannesburg team, and be eligible to play in the rest of the Super 14 tournament.
Brendan Venter, Director of Rugby, said: “Wikus has produced many outstanding performances for Saracens and we wish him and his family well.”
He must have signed the contract before the S14 kicked off.
Shame, the poor man.

Hmmmm… good move, but that’s not where the Lions have a problem… Problems are at Fullback, Flyhalf, locks…. and generally in the approach to defense and game plan.

Only problem is Earl Rose doesn’t wear golden shorts, so he is elligible to get tackled, and he proves it in spectacular style week in week out, season after season.
Good news for the Lions. Wikus is a fantastic player. Probably will never sought out all the problems, but to get a player with that talent back is always good.

So the Lions can drop one of the few players that have performed thus far, and replace him with a player that has been playing on the heavy fields of Europe for the last 6 months, and hope that the poor bastard will turn the season around.

Best thing the Lions can do is pull out of the S14 giving the excuse that the pitch needs the rest for FIFA WC 2010.
At lease they won’t endure any embarresing defeats, the Union will limit financial losses from an empty stadium and the expense of match day support, and they’ll have a chance to win the VC with the S14 players.
