A lot of debate has been doing the rounds in terms of whom the more successful team in Super Rugby is…

We all know about the Crusaders incredible record in the tournament, and other teams have thrown in their weight aswell. But history is exactly that…history ,so what’s the most recent tendencies.

Here are some interesting reading I came across on “Pick & Go” website

Even with the Bulls dismal performances in earlier years in the Super Rugby tournament they have managed to take pole position in a log that works on the same principal as the IRB World Rankings. Teams like the Brumbies and Waratahs also suprise in relatively high log positions, and even the Stormers who has only recently hit the right note are well on the up.

Note that these rankings are all the way back, since the start of the 1996 Super 12 tournament up untill now.

This can be compared to NZ topping the world rankings more often than not although they have’nt seen the World Cup trophy in some 23 years, but the form team over the last period of time will be the team most rewarded.

“This is pick & go’s new Super Rugby ranking table
which shows the ranking point positions of each
team since the first Super12 match in 1996.Each team started on 80 points and they move up
and down relative to each other using the same
points exchange system that the IRB use for
ranking Test matches.Exchange points are doubled for semis & finals.”

Log coutesy of “Pick & Go”

In terms of trophy winners in Super rugby here are the list.

Crusaders = 7
Blues = 3
Brumbies = 2
Queensland = 2
Transvaal = 1
Bulls = 2

Although the Crusaders have clearly topped the before mentioned list, are teams like the Bulls realisticly making a shift as far as tournament domination are concerned?

I think the answer is clearly yes at this point in time, but the question remains… Can they build on recent and past success…?

2010 will be another building block towards this goal should the Bulls be successful in defending their title…

    57 – Blouste, I am well mate,

    Yip it will be, then you said the same last week 😛 It was tough in the end, our defence??? Hope we don’t off like we done last weekend.

    Reds are a good team some seriously good players there, with Genia and Cooper.

    meant – Hope we dont fall off

    The Vodacom Bulls are starting to feel at home in Auckland and are working on their attack ahead of the Blues game, writes team doctor, Org Strauss, in his tour diary…
    Hi there,

    We had a great day in Auckland. As usual, the guys slept late, with the backs only having their video session at 11h30 before they headed for the gym. The forwards followed the same routine after them.

    After lunch everybody relaxed and got ready for training at around 15h00. There we focused on our attack and attacking moves for the game. All went well, no one picked up any niggles and the forwards were happy after their line-out and scrums session as well.

    Everybody has now adapted to the time difference and our hotel rooms are feeling like our own homes!

    Tomorrow is a rest day. Some of the players will do the walk around in Auckland, while some golf duels will be resumed by others. That will be interesting and I will keep you up to date.

    We are getting closer to match day all the time and the team is really looking forward to this massive challenge. Take care, till later. Org.

    Puma

    I’m very happy for the Sharks with their win last week, but hey it was tough…

    I just think in general the Reds are being under-estimated this year. They are doing well and have a good coach.

    You are at home though, if that is anything to go by in this years competition…

    At least you got the Cheetahs game right last week 😆

    @ 62

    Bulls seem to having a lot of off days on their overseas tour, also had monday off if memory serves…

    Hope this works and does’nt come back to haunt them…

  • 66

    #60 blouste noone is arguing the fact that right now bulls are the inform team , those that are arguing that are being stupid

    but i have no doubt in the history of super rugby the saders are the best team to date , irrespective of the stats

    and i think that is what rudi is saying too ,

  • 67

    64 – So Blouste, Who you going with this week on bru? Sharks or Reds? Pleased I went with my heart last week 😀

    Think this will be a very tough game. If Reds beat Sharks, they will probably go back with 3 wins under their belt, don’t see Lions beating them.

    Hoping for a Sharks win. I am going with the Sharks. Though see we may have Strauss at outside centre. HOPE NOT 😯

    Hello Treehugs, See you up there.

  • 69

    sharky…

    I agree, just look at post 66… This is more an indication of teams currently in form.

    But to take over the mantle of the BEST team all over has to start somewhere and I know it’s still way to early to make any claims of that, but I think the Bulls has at least set up an platform for themslves in attempting it…

    Long way to go still I know, but if one team is going to achieve it (and read – IF ), currently your money have to be on the Bulls to do it….

  • 70

    Eishh Puma

    Difficult one, still thinking about it, reckon Sharks should do it… Crowd attendance should also be on the up at Absa Park after their last two wins overseas…fans attitude changes quickly after a win or two imo…

  • 71

    agreed blouste

  • 72

    70 – Blouste, Yip this will be a hard one. Think Sharks will want to get one win at home..haha. We lost both our first two games there.

    I will go with my team like I normally do. Maybe by 2 again, something like that. a BUT if we have Strauss at outside centre think that will be a mistake by Plum. See Lambie too going to be with the U20’s for two weeks. Will miss the game against the Lions as we have a bye next week. Just hope that is not the game the Lions decide to get a win… 😀

    Hiho Puma, how are you today ? was on other thread.

    Was reading voldy in the bush this morning and Hater is in a vile mood so stay away for a while. :mrgreen:

    She really hates the Sharks for some reason, was quite suprised.

  • 75

    @ 72 Puma

    Lions getting on everyones nerves I believe… Everyone waiting for them to win their first game… Hope it’s not against us either 😯

    They showed some improvement last week in 40 minutes of the game in any case…

    Started well, ended well… Just have to do it for 80 min though…

  • 76

    So realisticly what are the Sharks chances this weekend and dont know about the stormers as well.

  • 77

    Hi Treehugger, all well?

  • 78

    Hi Sharky, mwah

  • 79

    and Blouste 😳

  • 80

    Hugs…

    Sharks seem to be on the up, so pretty good imo…wont be easy though.

    Force on the up aswell and getting some players back, Stormers should still be to strong for them I think…

  • 81

    74 – Treehugs, Very well. Nah have not been there for awhile. I am mostly here and a bit on Sharksworld.

    Now hope our Sharkies can do it again this week. We have a problem now that Adi is out. Read on SW that Strauss may play there. We in the poo if he does 😯

  • 82

    80 – Blouste, Ja Force have Pocock back this week and se Brown on the bench.

    Reds though look like a team that could make the semi.

  • 83

    I really rate the reds and quite frankly dont think home ground advantage is going to be a factor in our game.

    Dont know how well our bio rythems(sp)are pumping.

  • 84

    Just wish Ruan could be more consistant, would be easier to try figure out how the game will go.

  • 85

    @ 82

    Indeed Puma, everybody have mentioned it but currently they truely look like realistic contenders for a semi spot…

  • 86

    good day hugger hun hugsssssss :kiss: how ru doing??

    and Ruan is brilliant , so dont force me to put you over my knee 😆

  • 87

    83 – Treehugs, just looked over to voldy, jeepers some horrible stuff going on there today. Nothing unusual. Not nice really, that is why I blog here most of the time. That kinda thing puts me off blogging there.
