    Hehe Saint,

I know my rugby as well as anyone on here.

We all see the same thing on TV, just form different opinions on it.

I had the Wynand at test level debate with people about 2 weeks ago elsewhere.

Going on Wynand’s test rugby career, he was never afforded the opportunity to establish himself.

Of his almost 30 starts, the majority was off the bench, his most consistent run was at 13 (most games in a row) and his only real opportunity at 12 was in 2006 during the worst run in Bok history under White and for almost 30 years of Bok rugby (with the 5 losses in a row and the Aus 49-0 snotting) where I think he played 3 games in a row at 12.

In context, Wynand had an almost non-existant Bok career looking at how he earned those caps.

    GBS,

Keep faith in Dippenaar, he will mature rapidly take my word.

Do not shift your best 12, let JL cover both from the bench.

That is the path he chose when he left the Cheetahs

61@ Morne – Hail Morne, the enlightened one!!

That puts the correct perspective on Wynand’s Test career!!

  • 64

Well done to the Bulls, Sharks and Stormers. 3/5 not bad. Travel safe Bulls and bring back some serious sculps. I haven’t vanished just busy.

  • 65

    GBS,

Here I will agree with Saint.

Morne is not strong on defense, I am actually surprised his channel is not attacked more.

  • 66

    Morning Morne and all,

WO may not be a strike runner, but can we say that Dippenaar is one?

I tend to agree with GBS – its not easy, but I might get the hang of it after a while ;-)- it maybe worthwhile testing a Pot-Louie Jacquegieter and Meisiekind combo ’cause it may very well be better than the one they’ve currently got going.

  • 67

62@ Morne – Eishhhhhh, No 13 is a problem at the Bulls man… send us Juan de Jongh… we’ll make him a star!

On that point I will not budge, Steyn, great player that he currently is, is nowhere near adequate as far as his defense goes. The Hurricanes constantly ran his channel, so obviously they also saw what I saw, were it not for Olivier, it might have ended a mess.

I am not saying he needs to be as solid as Grant on defense (because he simply can’t be) but Steyn is a liability in the defense stakes.

  • 69

68@ Saint – I see we’re getting you to see the light as far as Wynand is concerned, hell according to you he covers 2 channels defensively… not bad for a “kak” inside centre… hahahaha

  • 70

    #67,

    Hands off!!!

He is ours, but no worries, I am sure he will be shafted and up for transfer soon enough!

Juan is definately not a 12!

If you signed Welsch again, it might not have been a bad call.

JL Potgieter is NOT SA’s No. 2 flyhalve…I am not even going to argue that point.

  • 72

    Hey Fender,

Dippenaar is not the real deal, but this kid is a good talent.

You lack real strike runners at the Bulls true, which is something we highlighted pre-season.

    But it aint broke guys…

    You are scoring scintilating tries.

Pieter Rossouw will make this kid a star, and he has the best 12 in SA currently inside him.

    Have faith in Dippenaar.

Or send him back to Province.

GBS, never said he couldn’t tackle, check all my articles, he is uncompromising on defense, my problem with him, is his ability to set up other players.

Yes, to get to a 4th or 5th phase, he has to feature somewhere along the line, but the final pass, the bit of magic, is usually someone else…

  • 74

    #72,

Has to read not the real deal YET

  • 75

Bulls defense has been less than solid on the outside…. outside centre and both wings, not past midfield…. especially on the counter by a Team.

For instance, Israel Dagg’s hatrick of tries came on the counter past Hougie mostly…

Ja Nee, De Jongh is definitely not a 12…but he will get his chance at 13, I am certain of it.

  • 77

    #76,

    He should in the CC.

  • 78

    Hougie and Shadow…

It’s because Olivier covers the inside…

Why did everyone pick Shadow though? The kid can’t even be mentioned in the same breath as Aplon… Aplon weighs 70kg’s he stopped Pierre Spies in his tracks, he tackles forwards as effectively as he tackles backs, he never misses, and his confidence is sky-high, he is having the season of his life.

  • 79

BTW…Israel Dagg is knocking at the door for All Black inclusion…but I cannot see Henry dropping Muliaina

  • 80

Flok, you Province guys are stingy buggers…. send us Juan de Jongh, he won’t be wasted at inside centre, he’ll be employed every game at outside centre, where he belongs….

  • 81

    #72 and #74

OK, I gotcha on the YET bit, but then in an ideal world what position should Dippenaar play?

From where I’m sitting he hasn’t got the pace for an outside centre; he’s chase of Israel Dagg during Dagg’s first try appeared almost laboured.

  • 82

Pity Mapoe has a serious injury… I rate him highly!

  • 83

Get Meyer Bosman…he is a strike runner as well, Cheetahs should pick him at 13…

I would have had Ebersohn playing 12 a long time ago…that kid has talent oozing out of him, and his hands are excellent…

Mapoe also looked the business at 13

Singy? For Pete’s sake GBS – just how many Capies do you want up there!

  • 85

    #81

S14 Reserve…CC Outside Centre…untill he picks up his physique

  • 86

    #81,

Cant remember if Dippenaar played 12 or 13 at WP before the Bulls bought him?

    Saint?

  • 87

Do what the Cheetahs did with Pieterse…

Give Slaptjips a pair of toks…

  • 88

    #86

12 if I remember correctly, but I saw him in 13 as well. But I think it was a move borne out of injury.

  • 89

I see on the Bulls website, he prefers outside centre though…

  • 90

    That is what I though…

I dont think he has real problems with pace for an outside center.

He definately needs a bit more bulk in my view, and perhaps a few pointers on his running lines running off the ball but he is definately not the worst 13 I have seen.
