Welcome to day 2 of the Test between India and South Africa. Jacques Kallis has never hit a double ton before. A great opportunity for him today and if he and SA can stretch that total, it should be fun to watch how India respond.

Yesterday Kallis gave a masterclass as he scored 159 not out, his 34th test century, putting him joint third with Sunil Gavaskar and Brian Lara. Only Ricky Ponting (39) and Sachin Tendulkar (45) are ahead of him. His innings also took him past a thousand runs versus India in his 12th game against them, and a further landmark – a long sought after maiden double century – awaits him on the second morning.

Despite coming in at a parlous six for two, Kallis played with tremendous freedom as he scored 101 of South Africa’s first 150 runs, collecting 13 fours and two sixes in total as he produced an absolute masterclass.

Amla’s solidity at three has been one of the keys to South Africa’s success over the last few years and he batted with tremendous composure and application, sealing up his end so Kallis could play with often remarkable freedom.

The sumptious flicks off his legs were there and he also cut vigorously as he collected 11 fours in his 115 not out off 225 balls.

A top-class display of batting from the pair who have made a habit of sharing big partnerships brought them 285 runs in five-and-a-half hours in their third-wicket stand, a record for any wicket for South Africa against India.

Please Kallis just do it , i am holding thumbs for you.

“Kalis rock solid in defense” but can he switch to positive batting. It is too slow for my liking, but anyway what do I know.

  • 3

Amla looks in good nick, he is free flowing.

  • 4

last 10 overs Amla scored 27 of 36 balls and Kallis 1 off 24 balls. Maybe Kallis is getting the feel but for me it is about playing shots, as i speak Kallis got his first runs after 40 minutes play this morning.

Hope he is in the right mindset for his first 200

326 off 590 balls, record 3rd wicket partnership by any team in India.

    Morning Super,

See Amla on 146 damn good hey!! Hope he gets his 150.

Kallis on 169 so have not missed him getting 200. Hope he makes it that would be AWESOME!!

5 – Super, one word BRILLIANT. This Kallis and Amla have done a superb job coming in after the two openers went out so quick yesterday.

  • 8

Sorry typo, never meant to type this before Kallis, ignore.

  • 9

Morning Puma, i just dont like Kallis when he is not dominating, but now that he survived the 1st hour without any chances lets hope he plays with his mind on getting a fifty.

  • 10

Well done Amla gets his 150.

Kallis on 170 hope he makes it to 200.

  • 11

    congratulations to MR Hassim Amla
    Good 150

  • 12

9 – Feel the same Super. Only just turned the tv on about 15min back. So have not seen too much yet.

Hope he does make that 200 and Amla too. Would be just magnificent.

Puma one thing about Kallis he is a big grafter, when the other cricket greats got to 150 they accelerate and almost scores at 1 a ball. they dominate the bowling. Kallis never looks like getting a world record score, or say 365 or near 400. That would take him 5 days.

Watching Kallis can be is hard work, rather watch the highlights later. It is a struggle now. But dont understand me wrong , i am patient , but nervous.
    The pitch is getting worse.

13 – Super, sorry if I don’t answer back straight away back and forward from the tv.

    There goes Kallis. DAMN.

Super agree, Kallis is a grafter but he should have been more positive after getting his 150 and maybe accelerated a bit just might have got that 200.

Could see one of them going soon, seem now to be battling against the spin there. Amla also almost got out awhile ago. Need to dig deep now and hope the others don’t just fall away quick. Want us to bat until close today and then send them in tomorrow and hoping we can bowl them out twice and not have to come and bat again. HOPING!!!

Kallis out, i saw this coming the whole 90 minutes this morning.
Kallis you blew it mate, you blew it.

  • 17

16 – Super, Agree from what I had seen since turning the tv on. Pity would have like to see him get that 200.

Now maybe Amla can do it. Then think he too is now struggling a bit against the spin.

  • 18

The previous test we made 500+ they answered with 600+
We will struggle to get past 500 today. To slow batting, 3,3 per over wont get you a result many times.

Strange to see a empty stadium in India. Their stadiums are always full to the rafters. Seems really odd too see it so empty.

  • 20

18 – Super, Remember that. Also remember a few years back when Oz got around 450 or 480 they declared and India got that and more think they got around 700 and more. Oz had to come out to bat again and lost that game.

Not too sure on the score but think it was around that.

  • 21

Look we are on a good score but they are controlling the morning now, last 10 overs 19 runs , it is poor.

  • 22

21 – Super, It is poor. Think it is the spin all of a sudden we are struggling against. Hope we can hold out now. Need to get far more runs than we have.

  • 23

I cant watch it anymore , will browse the newspaper on the web and follow the scores on cricinfo. My wife is happy , now she claimed the remote. 😆

I wonder how it is in a Protea dressing room after another miss by Kallis. Look no one will blame him , getting 163, no one will say he failed. But everyone know his failures to reach 200 or to add a significant score overnight after a ton.

We should have had 50 to 80 more runs by now then the pressure would have been on India. Right now they feel they are still in it. Rightly so.

    Last Bat JH Kallis c Vijay b Harbhajan Singh 173 (351b 15×4 2×6) SR: 49.28
    Fall of wicket: 346/3 (113.2 ov); Partnership: 340 runs, 106.5 overs, RR: 3.18 (Kallis 173, Amla 154)

Kallis will never get to 200, he has this huge mental block. He needed to be positive this morning, and he choked……. again.

  • 27

De Villiers is batting with meaning, we need to up the run rate if we want a chance to win this game.

  • 28

Amla on 169 of 324 balls.

    Amla will get 200.

  • 29

    More Snoek
I said so the whole morning, it is so painful to watch Kallis after he reaches 150. Hell the man suffers, he must accept he cant do it and go out blasting anything thrown at him after his 150, maybe just maybe he can get over that mental barrier.

De Villiers lyk goed sover. 15 van 27 balle.
