The Reds are the surprise package of the competition to date after they ran the Waratahs close in round one and followed it up with a comprehensive victory over the Crusaders the following week.

They host a Blues side who managed to scrape home against the Highlanders, but haven’t set the competition alight in their opening two games.

The battle of the primary colours has historically been a closely fought one.  Of the fourteen games the Blues have won 7, the Reds 6 and there has been one draw.

    Try Reds Will Genia

  • 2

Try Will Genia with intercept from around the halfway line as he makes a great catch from Brett’s attempted kick ahead. Cooper with a good kick and he puts it through the middle and is successful with his conversion.

  • 3

11 Genia is caught by Mathewson at the scrum and there is a penalty for the Blues as Genia holds on to the ball on the ground… Brett lines up the kick from around 35m out and he hooks it off to the left.

  • 4

19 The Blues take the ball through the phases just outside of the 22 with some big runs by Lilo and Mealamu in particular before Weeks doesn’t roll away and there is a penalty for the Blues… penalty with a fairly straight forward kick from Brett

  • 5

26 The Blues loose forwards are making the tackles now as Saili flattens Ioane after Hynes was hit by Kaino.

25 The Reds aren’t afraid to throgh it around in the rain and Cooper dabs through for Turinui to chase… Genia is on a sniping run into space but a massive hit from Williams thumps the scrumhalf to the deck.

  • 6

30 Boric is pulled down after making good metres and the Reds defence is scrambling again before Mealamu knocks it forward.

28 Mathewson keeps the ball moving quickly and Kaino is up into the 22… the reds defence is streached and there is a giant overlap but Ranger goes himself and loses the ball. If he had passed it there was a certain try on there, poor selfish play.

  • 7

34 Saili picks up from the base of the scrum and hands off a couple of tacklers… Rangers gets the ball with 4 defenders on him but none of them seem to want to tackle him and he pushes them out of the way and scores try . Its a tough kick from the sideline for Brett and it doesn’t quite curl in in time.

  • 8

The Reds fight back with a good scrum and Afoa goes to ground and gives away the penalty… Cooper has the kick from out on the left hand side and is 40m out… what a kick in the rain by Cooper penalty

  • 9

44 The Blues work the ball up as the forwards pick-and-drive… the ball goes wide but Rokocoko is given a very difficult pass that he does well not to knock forward… Mealamu and Boric both drive in and the Blues are right up to the line now… try as Boric goes over from the fringes of the ruck as the Reds run out of defenders to stem the tide… Brett add the extra two with a good kick.

  • 10

50 The game has gone a little dead in the last few minutes… now the Blues maul the ball forwad and into the Reds half… Brett puts through a kick and its a poor one that Cooper fields.

  • 11

54 Fantastic kick by Brett over the top by Brett and it is into touch 5m from the Reds line.

52 Try from the back of the line-out 30m out Mathewson with a dummie and he is away on his own for the try. The Reds just went to sleep there and a soft try, but well taken by Mathewson. Brett has hooked it to the left again and the conversion is no good.

  • 12

56 The Blues line-out is a mess and Cooper is able to clear the ball… The Reds look for field possessiona nd Cooper does another good kick to get the ball out in the Blues half.

  • 13

58 The Reds makes some ground as Braid and Saia Faingaa carry the ball up and then Genia with a long kick to get some field position.

  • 14

61 Quick line-out from Chamber and Ioane is runing from the centre of the field… the Faingaa twins both make good runs up firled as the Reds are up into the Blues half… Cooper dances through one tackle but can’t get the pass away… turnover and Munro is into space and releases Rokocoko… the kick forward to the line is just too far and there was only Humphries chasing for the Reds.

  • 15

68 Againits Genia and Cooper combining well in centre field and the reds have come back into the match with some handy momentum… Ioane is through a gap and beats 4 defenders before he is pulled down… Anthony Faingaa is tackled 3m short… Genia scampers around the side but can’t get there and its a penalty against the Blues for killing the ball. Cooper from 30m out has a go, but it just shaves the right hand upright.

  • 16

70 Boric has stolen the ball with an intercept and Maafu collects the ball round the outside but is forced into touch by Humphries only a couple of metres out

  • 17

Morning superBul, busy here I see. How many more minutes left here?

  • 18

17 – Hi Carol, How was your night out at the rugby?

  • 19

73 The Reds take a quick line-out and look to Ioane to run and he is straight through a hole… Cooper kicks croos-field to Chambers who collects and grubbas through for Turinui to chase. Has he grounded it we are going to the TMO… no he didn’t quite get his hands on it over the line and its a scrum for the Blues 5m from their own goal line.

18 Puma, great evening out thanks…..Loads of Frenchmen wearing berets in Cardiff, they were in fine voice in the stadium too singing Their anthem at full volume….

It worked, the Welsh were caught flat footed and only fired up in the second half….

Two blinding Welsh trys right in front of us improved things ‘slightly’! 🙂

I have now dropped 6 places on superBru!! Grrrrrrr
