The Bulls have set in motion their rotation policy in considering their squad to take on the Waratahs at Loftus, Pretoria on Saturday.

Official Media release from the Bulls:

Derick Kuün will start as openside for the Vodacom Bulls for the first time in three years when they take on the Waratahs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Kuün, who moved back from the hooker position where he played Super Rugby in 2008 and 2009, last played on the side of the scrum for the Bulls in the final of the 2007 competition.

He replaces the regular number six, Deon Stegmann, as part of Bulls coach, Frans Ludeke’s, rotational policy in a move that also sees Danie Rossouw starting at eight and centurion Pedrie Wannenburg again wearing the number seven jersey.

Rossouw is fit again after a neck strain prevented him from a start against the Brumbies and will replace Pierre Spies, who is still recovering from a knock to the knee suffered in that game.

“We are losing a lot of fire power with Pierre not available as he is one of our main ball carriers. But luckily we have someone similar with Danie, who also carries the ball very well and is fit again”, Ludeke said of this move.

Flip van der Merwe, who replaced Rossouw a week ago, retains his place after a strong showing against the Brumbies.

Dewald Potgieter will make his first appearance off the bench after recovering from the knee injury that prevented earlier participation.

Ludeke left his back line unchanged, although Jaco van der Westhuyzen might replace John Mametsa, providing that his clearance papers from his Japanese club, NEC Green Rockets, arrive on time.

With regards to the Waratahs, Ludeke said that he expecting another tough onslaught.

“I thought Bryan Habana was the only difference between them and the Stormers last weekend, with his brilliance taking the game away from the Waratahs. They have a international front row and a massive pack, but the Bulls also have world class players, so we will be ready.”

Captain Victor Matfield again committed his side to play positive rugby.

“We will continue to try and score tries. We scored from 70% of the attacking line-outs we forced on the Brumbies and will continue to look for those opportunities.”

The team is (with number of Super 14 caps): 15. Zane Kirchner (29), 14. Gerhard van den Heever (6), 13. Stephan Dippenaar (4), 12. Wynand Olivier (59), 11. Francois Hougaard (6), 10. Morné Steyn (61), 9. Fourie du Preez (87, v/c), 8. Danie Rossouw (90), 7. Pedrie Wannenburg (100), 6. Derick Kuün (44), 5. Victor Matfield (97, c), 4. Flip vd Merwe (8), 3. Werner Kruger (30), 2. Gary Botha (61), 1. Gurthrö Steenkamp (54). Replacements: 16. Bandise Maku (10), 17. Bees Roux (19), 18. Deon Stegmann (27), 19. Dewald Potgieter (19), 20. Heini Adams (31), 21. Jacques-Louis Potgieter (20), 22. John Mametsa (5) or Jaco van der Westhuyzen (47).

My experience with elephant differ from yours.

Look the moment you think you know them then they will do something different. I was only chased by females once, about 5 kms from where i was today. It was marula time and the mother was busy eating fruits and the young one was on the other side of the road, i drove through the middle and she chased me for about 1 kilometer.

The young bulls in a breeding herd will almost every-time chase you when you get near. Sometimes 2 or 3 do the storming together. I just stand my ground. They stopped every-time so far, touch wood. 😀

Bulls in must , there is your problem boykies. There you must asses your options fast and hope you do the right thing.

Remember we drive trough the “tweespoor” roads on private farms , so you come around the corner and viola there you are meters from the elephant. I can tell you great stories about my encounters. Lucky i can still tell them.

Evening Carol. You have to take a look at the new photos from Supers wild life albums. They are great.

  • 33

31 – Super, Getting chased by Elephanst is a heart attack waiting to happen…….hahaha. That time they chased our car a few of them. Think they were all Female. There were many young with them. Awesome sight to see so many.

Well you need danger pay..haha. You work around beautiful animals but they are dangerous.

Only seen the lone Elephant Bulls or sometimes two of them together. They did look at us flap their Ears but never chased us. Sort of keep way back when I stop the car to look at them. Feel like they could just stand and crush the car, they look huge when you see them that close up.

Evening Puma and superBul, You two have racked up quite a few sightings between you!!
Super you would be a great Lion ‘snack’ you watch your back!!

Somehow my drive through The Lions of Longleat is just not the same, however when you are in a mini a big male lion peering through the window seems VERY intimidating!!

  • 35

Although it did not look particularly hungry!! 🙂

  • 36

Super, Is that a malaria area where you work? Most of our wild life seem to be in the malaria areas.

Would love to go to Botswana or even Namibia and see the wild Lions there. Believe the Lions in Botswana are biggest you will see.

  • 37

Puma did you watch the album “Latest”? If so that elephant walking onto the road looking straight at me is one of the young bulls in that breeding herd, and he tried to chase us away. I just stopped there and he moved on.

The biggest breeding heard i ever counted was 60. That is a lot of ele, and i had to drive right through them.

34 – Carol, You missed out on the greatest thing South Africa has to over tourists to this country, by not going to a game park. You should have included that in your holiday here. You have to come back and visit one. Probably the Kruger as it is so huge about the size of Scotland. Only of course full of wild life 😉 Just magnificent.

So if an elephant runs at you do you run round a tree or what? it would be able to outrun me for sure!!

  • 40

33 – Super, Yes looked at that one. Were you out your car when the Elephant looked at you? Jeepers I would have died3 of a heart attack………hahahaha. Only ever in my car when I see those big okes……hahaha. Then they can chase the car as well like they done ours that time. I was in reverse at the time. Reversed so fast and just had to keep going until they stopped coming at us. Not sure how many but it looke at least about 70. There were many, many of them. Was the Female Breeding herd. Plenty young with them too. The young was tuck in between them. They were heading down to the water at the time. You see plenty if you go to Olifants in the Kruger. Have not been for such a long time as the malaria tabs make me sick. So stopped going.

I hit a badger with my car, knocked the radiator out……Imagine the damage if you hit an elephant or it hit you!

    Insurance write off!!

well Carol playing the odds that might just happen. You can only be lucky so many times. 😆
But if i have a choice between a high-jack murder or being a predators meal , well….. maybe the meal one will be more newsworthy in this country. And i lie i dont want either.

  • 43

37 – You had to drive right through so many? Jeepers they could have crushed your car.

That time I reversed away like a man person…..hahaha. Thought they were going to catch up and crush my car. So many of them. Would never have driven through the Breeding Herd. NOT me just too scared…….haha.

  • 44

41 – Carol…….hahaha. If you hit the Elephant it probably would not have felt it but your car would have and it would probably have been crushed. Those are might big okes. You need to see them close up live. Awesome.

  • 45

34 – Carol, Had a laugh there. IN A MINI….hehehe. A lion looking in would look HUGE…..hehehe. Never go to the Kruger in a mini. 😀

No No you have the wrong impression.
    Firstly malaria tablets
I have been living here 18 years and i did not drink a single malaria tablet. Yes i know what the warnings and the medics say. You must be aware of the symptoms. It is almost like a cold. If you leave a malaria area and you feel sick, like in flu or cold , just tell your doc to test you for malaria, tell him you were in a malaria area.

I had malaria twice, and i know it is horrible.

my whole family are lucky , no one had malaria.

must have felt like the day i watched a movie in Durbs in the Imax theater. Something like Africa or Safari. Those lions were so big i lost almost all my confidence.

I drive a 4×4 truck or bakkie as we call them in SA, my bakkie is a bit higher than a car but when a lion walks next to my bakkie i wind up the window at least halfway. i once had my window open and the big male lion walked past me, as he reached my door he looked me straight in the eye. That was the fastest window winding you could ever hope to see.

  • 48

46 – Super, You lucky then living 18 years in a Malaria area and only gettin it twice. Does it not stay with you for life? As it can flare up again once you have gotten it.

I really feel like going to the bush again. Especially looking at those pics. I was speaking to a client today that is going to a game park but is Malaria Free. Not sure how much game is in those parks. The best near the Kruger or the Kruger.

Never want to get Malaria. Believe it is awful.

This is great elephants, bakkies and malaria….beats watching the soaps whilst I cook!!

When are you guys going to start gossiping about your predictions……I like a nice long list like Sneok did last week, then others put in their changes…

    Very helpful!! 😉

  • 50

47 – Super, I bet you wind that window up pronto…..hahaha. You think they not big from far but once they near your car they are massive the male Lions especially.

Would love to see a wild life on the Imax that would be great.

  • 51

I found a leech on my leg in Austraila!! 😆

  • 52

You are not alowed into the Safari Parks here in a convertible anyway!! 😀

  • 53

49 – Carol, My picks have be terrible. Well I have been going with my heart and selecting the Sharks and that has let me down mostly. Also Saders who I thought was a sure bet and the lost. So this week is a tough week. Some teams could win or lose. Have to think about it. Will put mine in tomorrow.

  • 54

    Milan 1 – 0 Chelsea…

  • 55

51 – Carol, that is horrible. They suck your blood…hehehe.

Did you go snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef? When I went there went from Port Douglas. Was really great.

  • 56

54 – Carol, I am not into Football..haha. All my Scots mates are though. Also my Daughter. She is into football big time. Maybe cause she lived in Holland and Scotland for awhile. She supports Italy too and Portugal.

  • 57

Puma, next holiday get an adrenaline rush and hire a fiat uno and drive through elephants and lions!!

You will be on their level and the metal is very thin!

  • 58

54 – Carol actually that is the team my daughter supports in Italy. Milan. She will be watching it if it is on.

  • 59

It is actually sad to think that malaria is robbing us of clients here. No man come dont drink tabs too, it suppresses the symptoms and is then picked up late. just look after yourself. There is so many mosquito repelants available and just drink gin they wont come near you.

Yes you do get flare ups for about 2 to 5 years but that is not so bad

But i think i must do some Rugby talk soon , just now GBS come and tell us this is not face book

  • 60

57 – Carol….NEVER. hehe. They would crush a car that small. Feel a lot better in a bigger car going to the bush.
