Ulster hangs on tightly to BJ Botha’s contract with them, following rumours that BJ Botha was interested in returning to SA.

David Humphreys, Ulster’s Director of Operations says there is ‘no way’ Springbok prop BJ Botha is about to walk out of his contract with the Magners League side and insists that he remains a big part of Ulster’s plans.

BJ Botha is currently injured and will miss this weekend’s Magners League clash with Glasgow because of this knee injury.

The former Shark moved to Ireland from the start of their 2008 season and has become an important figure for Ulster. He maintans though that playing for the Springboks remains the pinnacle of any player’s career and something which he would always jump at the chance to do.

Injuries to a number of Bokke front row players made Peter de Villiers call on BJ Botha as a late replacement, although de Villiers has stated openly that it is still selection policy to always draw players who applies their trade in SA first before looking to apply players who are based overseas.

BJ Botha at TIGHT HEAD and John Smit reverting back to HOOKER saw the Springbok scrum suddenly achieve dominance against their Northern Hemisphere opposition and the line of thought must certainly be to continue with that line of thinking and selection.

Botha’s contract with Ulster runs until the end of this current Northern Hemisphere season.

“No way [he is on his way home],” said Humphreys to the Irish Independent.

“[Head coach] Brian [McLaughlin] and the coaching staff see BJ as one of the cornerstones of what is a young Ulster team and he is very much a part of what we are trying to achieve in terms of bringing the team through.

“He is enjoying his time at Ulster Rugby and plays a hugely important role for us.”

This Jan can surely not go back to the Sharks should he decide to come back. Bulls I suppose?
I think now that Luke has left the Cape franchise, more players will be willing to go to Cape Town as well.

When does the NH season end? Read that BJ has a contract there until May next year. After he got a call up for the Boks again, wanted to come home and try and get into the Boks squad for the World Cup. After his contract ends end of May next year.

Never really take what I read serious. Will have to see first if he does come home.

A knee injury? All the TH landed up with a injury after playing in the NH for the Boks. Excecpt John 😆

Ulster believe BJ is one of the best signings ever for the club.
It takes foreigners to recognize one of the best tight heads in world rugby.
What do PDV and Gold know about the value of a tight head prop and the technicalities of the position?
