Check this out, it does make for good reading…

Saturday 31 October 2009 – Loftus Versveld

0.19 Final Free State Cheetahs v Lions

0.21 Final Free State Cheetahs v Sharks

CC Final Vodacom Free State Cheetahs v Vodacom Blue Bulls

Who would have expected that after the horror start the Cheetahs had this year in the Currie Cup? From my pessimistic viewpoint of Naka it does beg the question why he can achieve this in the CC but not a hell of a lot in the Super 14 competition. I stated early in the year he has reached the end of his capabilities and should make room for someone else.

You can only assume after reaching the final his job is secure for at least another year. Hopefully the rest of the Cheetah supporter can convince me it is a good thing…

In other news I read somewhere that in the four team playing last week we had a total of 15 old Grey players plying their trade. I tried to find more specific stats and also about the number playing in the 0.19 and 0.21 semi finals but to no avail.

Well it is a pleasant surprise to find my team playing in the final, never expected that a few weeks ago or even on Saturday till moments before the final whistle. Now let’s hope admin can do their bit and hold on to the majority of these players for a couple of years.

Somehow Cheetahs leave their best for SA sides
Last year in S14 YEAR THE BULLS WON
    P 4, W 1 L 3
    POINT FOR 101 AGAINST 97
    TRIES FOR 13 AGAINST 11

    2008 WAS BAD
    P 4 LOST ALL 4
    PF 78 AGAINST 150
    TF 11 TA 20

2007 THE YEAR THE BULLS WON
    P4 W2 L2
    PF 77 PA 73
    TF 8 TA 7

    see the pattern
When the BULLS do well the Cheetahs follow suit, they get some weird power in this situation ,this is even more prominent in the CC where they have a even better record in the last decade. The Bulls is the benchmark they strife to match, it started in Rassies time as captain.

If the Bulls team dont realize it they will be the ones in tears next Saturday.

On a CC level the Freestate and Bulls are the most successfull teams of the 21st century.

  • 8

And to add a little bit of Blue insight , the Bulls also in the S14 since 2005.
Not shabby , semi, semi, champ, resting, champ.

  • 9

@superBul – The resting year, that was when G Henry was the technical advisor?

Since 2003 the BuLLs had bEEn the benchmark to beat in SA Rugby!

This is not even up for debate – just a fact that must be respected.

And the ChEEtah players and MOST of the suPPorters do have a healthy respect for the buLLs!

We dont have to lAAik them, suck up to them or fear them.

    We just respect them!

And wiLL front op to whatever level of “pHysicality” wiLL be dished up @ Roftus-which in RugbyLore is indEEd a special place.

A cauldron of meaNNeSS- nor because of the braNNaswiLLing horned glad suPPorters- but because of a tradition hard core in your face rugby- augmented of late by real competence oFF the pitch and serious backline proweSS as coached by Slaptjips.

The chEEtahs wiLL be “marching to pretoria” knowing well what haPPened to the Chiefs

because that is the reference for this game.

Going there to be the first of the lOOsers wont be an option.

    GoNNa be an epic

    like the 2006 final!

Good day gentleman, as for the ladies this is a rugby site. Swanie as far as I am concern Naka, just like Rassie has no chance at S14 level. There is a massive difference between S14 and the CC. The S14 is a marathon and the CC a sprint. There is no easy games in the S14 as compared to the CC where the big teams get four or five “rest games”. Then we don’t even talk about the traveling, which is much harder in the S14. Teams like the Cheetahs and Lions just don’t have the depth to sustain such a long and tough campaign. They have a very good match 22 but what comes after that? Will the Cheetahs be that good without Brussow, JLP and Juan or this brilliant front row? Interesting to note that the Bulls had very few injuries in the 2009 S14 comp. I think it is more important to keep a player fit than worrying about his form.

  • 20

Agree stier but it begs the question, why is nothing being done about it?

Few years back we were told because we had no S12 team we lack sponsors/money. It’s been three years and a few cc to boot, what is the problem now?

  • 21

    19@stier – Hello and welcome.

This is a rugby site indeed… but if you look carefully at our “About” Section, all other discussion is welcome… and encouraged, except politics, racist content and religion.

Start off by telling us where your rugby allegiances lie.

    Hallo Pietman

Dinge raak nou interesant daar op superbru met die krieket. Ek sien jy en superbul het vir T&T geback vir ‘n wen. As julle reg is gaan dit baie interesant wees die laaste game.

Personally, I think the Cheetahs should fire their President Mr. Verster I think. Wasn’t he the guy that also came up with the Vodacom Cup format a few years ago where teams don’t play against teams in their own pool but against teams in a different pool? I mean how do you come up with such a brainless comp?

The Cheetahs should go down to the Sharks and look what they did. The Sharks don’t have a massive home based following, I am convinced most of their supporters life outside of KZN. They have managed to attract more support through the best marketing of their brand of all our domestic teams. The Sharks has supporter clubs all over SA. Once you can proof your support the sponsors will follow.

Think about it Bloem is not that far from Gauteng or Dirtbin, people will drive there easily if they support the Cheetahs. We all know the Cheetahs are most people’s second team, they just need to find a way to be peoples first choice. Maybe they can start by getting rid of that hideous orange jersey’s.

    @Snoek
n Blinde hoender pik ook soms raak jong!
Ek het nie n clue wat daar met die krieket aangaan nie, raai maar net, dis al….
