The Lions have been hit by injuries ahead of the clash with Western Province on Saturday.

Five players are struggling with injuries and are in doubt for saturday’s match. The injured players are Kevin Buys (tighthead), Derick Minnie (flank), Herkie Kruger(flyhalf), Doppies la Grange(centre) and Johan Jackson(wing).

Good news is that Dusty Noble and Alwyn Hollenbach have recovered from their injuries and will probably be up for selection. The Lions seem to be developing much needed depth as the players ready to take the places of the injured, have proven throughout the season that they are more than able, if required.

Gert Muller could replace Kevin Buys, while Walter Venter will be on standbuy for la Grange. Todd Clever, who recently commited to the Lions will replace Derick Minnie if he is not able to recover in time. The promising Ruan Boshoff will bring a lot of pace and skill to the backline in place of Herkie Kruger and Dusty Noble could stand in for Johan Jackson.

The Lions already have a couple of players out due to injury. Heinke vd Merwe, Louis Ludik, Lawrence Sephaka and Janus Labuschagne have been out the entire season, while Jano Vermaak was injured against Griquas and missed the games against Boland, Sharks and now Province.

    Losing Herkie might be a good thing, but Minnie is a JAN! Walter Venter should come in for Doppies.

    That Kevin Buys is a good player.

    @Loosehead

    Imagine Heinke and Kevin in the front row. With a new hooker.

    Well I hope the injured Lions players recover, I would like to see the Lions beat the WP.

    Typical….Natal softens them up and if WP do well against a depleted team (not to be guaranteed), then they will get delusions of grandeur about their CC chances. Carcharodon Carcharias is circling….and the non swimmers are getting nervous!!

    :devil:

    @4man

    Apparently there’s a couple of Sharkies also in doubt.

    It was an extremely physical game. Don’t worry, they’ll all be ready and we’ll whip the white and blue hoops.

    @WilladieLeeu – That would be lekker……and when Luke gets to Bath later this year, I might have to switch my allegiance to Saracens….I had a couple of mates who played for Transvaal….Peter Cronje…Liaan Kirkham, actually more than a couple, Duncan Skewis, Eddie Wentzel, Wahl Baartman….I honestly dont know what is swrong up there, but I think they should move the home ground away from Ellis Park….they would certainly get more supporters coming.

    @4man

    Those were legends.

    I go to the Park almost every game. Nothing wrong, a lot has changed.

    If we start winning, the supporters will come. Easy.

    All I see here are that the Bulls and Sharks supporters is so shyte scared of meeting each other in a semi that they are all shouting for the Lions to beat Province!…To win the CC you will have to beat the best, be it in the Semi or the Final.

    9@Polla – It would be good to play the best in the FINAL though…. hehehe
