The Sharks are set to gain the services of new players within the near future, this comes after the dissapointing exit in the Currie Cup semi finals at the hands of the Free State Cheetahs.

It seems the Lions are set to lose more players as the speculation of these two mentioned players grow stronger and stronger.

With the joy in the Lions camp of gaining the services of former Sharks coach, and assistant Springbok backline coach, so comes possible disappointments as news of more players leaving the Union.

Following the news of Jaque Fourie’s arbitration victory, follows the news that 3 more players are on their way out.

With lock Gerhard Mostert who has already signed, and is training with the sharks already, and now being followed by Louis Ludick and Willem Alberts.

It is expected that the players will sign 2 year contracts starting as of 1st November 2009, according to Sharks chief executive Brian Van Zyl the players are eager to join the Sharks and should not have a problem winning an arbitration as their contracts with the Lions union is exactly the same as that of Jaque Fourie.

With the Lions having lost its case against Fourie it is unlikely for them to stand in the way of Ludick and Alberts .

The “get out “ clause in the case of Fourie , Alberts and Ludick apparently revolves around a clause that states “the parties agree to review the remuneration for 2010”.

According to Jaque Fourie’s agent Peet Van Zyl, Jaque will put pen to paper within the next dew days with the Western Province Union.

    This is going to hurt the LionJanne…

    hiyas supa hoe gaan dit my maat??

    must say i am happy yet also feel sorry for the Lions

    In saying that i still feel the sharks need some good centers

  • 3

    JF started something here and now its easy for others to follow. GLRU are going to kick themselves many times over the contract that wasnt done properly.

  • 4

    mostert who is already training with the sharks is a lock of 120 kg’s,

    this along with alberts will give the sharks scrum a lot of bulk

    Naand tjomma! Fourie, Alberts, Ludik is albei drie goeie spelers!
    Wonder waar gaan Alberts speel? Hy gaan nie Kanko sommer net lig nie. Dalk slot?

  • 6

    i know when i was in durban a few months ago ludick was seen that the sharks tank

    i believe that was not site seeing lol

  • 7

    believe it or not i would move deysel to 6, he already does the fetching for the sharks

    and have a lose trio of alberts , kanko and deysel with botes or daniel on the bench , depending who one plays against and use rotating system

  • 8

    be back shortly

  • 9

    @sharky_forever

    Not sure Deysel could be an out an out fetcher. Too slow. I see him as a really good no 7. Maybe Alberts can come of the bench like Pakslae for the Bulls.

  • 10

    I also heard that they might be leaving, but still i hope that they stay with us because they will be more on the bench were they can play more at the lions.

  • 11

    Lions to remain without any trophies for another decade?

  • 12

    Lions 10 years without trophy

    WP/Stormers 8 years

    Cheetahs 2 years

    Sharks 1 year

    Bulls current trophy holders.

  • 13

  • 15

    With or without them we are gonna be a new lions team next year ,gonna do well

  • 16

  • 17

    @lions… Any truth in the rumours that wikus might be coming back next year?

    and any news bout the super 14 coaching team yet? Who will be the assistant coaches?

  • 18

  • 19

    @Number 12 – im not sure but i also heard it

  • 20

    lojaliteit of intellegensie nie. Die Sharks het laasjaar die beker die
    eerste keer in 10 jaar gewen.
As
    My gevoel is dat ‘n speler ‘n kontrak moet hê, as hy die kontrak wil
    breuk laat hom dit doen maar laat hom betaal. Daar is outjies wat hier
    WIL speel en ons sal met daai outjies die beker wen. Ons was baie
    ongelukkig om nie die finaal te maak nie. Ons kan enige span wen MET
    hulle springbokke en ons het dit bewys teen WP en die Guppies.

    @sharky_forever – 2

    Hi Sharky,

    Ja, must say I too feel sorry for the Lions but feel pleased on the other hand they coming to the Sharks.

    YES we need centres. Now we will see just how much we are going to miss Frans Steyn. Hope Plum is looking at getting some more players there.

    There are rumours going around that Brussow may come to Sharks too. I think that is really only rumours as spoke to Smallies and he said that Brussow had signed last year with Cheetahs for 2 years.

    Sorry about our loss on Sat. Very close but just too far.

    Cheetahs deserved their win though. Sharks really never played well. Adi just not the player he was.

    @Ed_the_Lion – 21

    Hello Ed, You right mate. Lions almost beat Sharks and beat WP in the CC. So many close games too in the S14. Always remember that great game they had against the Brumbies and beat them at Ellis Park. Then almost beat Blues the next week too and again the following week after having to travel to NZ almost beat Chiefs on home soil.

    Yip, Lions could beat any team on the day. They also never allowed any team to get 4 tries against them in the CC.

    Think Muir going to make a huge difference to the Lions next year.

    @Puma – hiyas puma bro

    yeah we need centers

    but yes i feel sorry for the lions,
    i know we lack depth in certain positions , and with the new 3 that will be solved

    but our bakline lacks punch

    we need some raw pace and power in the midfield

  • 25

    hiyas ed bro hope you are well ?

    personally if the sharks do sign these players , i hope they reach an agreement with the lions and loan some of our good up and coming talent to the lions

    let them get experience and at the same time help the lions out till they get their house soughted out

    i cant see how dick muir can change things around without help by jan 2010

  • 26

    If the Sharks wish that their young players gain experience they should do so themselves. They should not depend on someone else.
    By the way, the Bulls did give some of their youngsters experience during the CC.

  • 27

    @Puma – 23
    Almost correct, it was against the Hurricanes which we also had a good game, same as against the Chiefs.

  • 28

    @smallies72 – 18
    KAn verstaan die woede teenoor die Leeus, siende dat jy ek dink ‘n Cheetah is.

    Maar ek dink die Sharks het baie grooter koop rekord by die Cheetahs as wat die Leeus gehad het.

    Andre Joubert, Pieter Muller, Henri Honiball, Hentie Maartins, Bismark en Jannie du Plessis, Olie le Roux, Ruan Pienaar, (was Nico breedt nie ook al by die Sharks nie)? Help my maar reg as ek paar manne vergeet hier.

  • 29

    The Bulls already released the following players to the Lions:
    Wouter Moore
    Johan Jackson
    Ruan Boshoff
    Burton Francis

    To me it looks that only Wouter Moore is not a good buy. But it is up to the Lions to give these players exposure.

  • 30

    Agge nee man !

    Net toe ek dink my tweede span begin ‘n ommekeer maak, nou dit.
