WP coach Allister Coetzee announced his team to face the GWK Griquas at Newlands on Saturday.  The coach only made one change to the starting XV that beat the Leopards 37 points to 3 in Potchefstroom last weekend, with Tiaan Liebenberg returning to the starting line-up. Liebenberg, who picked up an injury against the Sharks in Durban, made his way back into the team via the bench last weekend. Several changes have been made among the reserves, with Sireli Naqelevuki returning from his knee injury to displace rookie JJ Engelbrecht and Springbok scrumhalf Ricky Januarie is listed in place of Conrad Hoffmann. Conrad Hoffmann has been released to play club rugby for Maties, where he will most likely wear the number 10 jersey.

Promising young prop JC Kritzinger returns from an injury he sustained prior to the 2009 Super 14, replacing JD Moller and under 21 recruit Martin Muller replaces Hilton Lobberts, who has been loaned to Boland. Martin made his Super Rugby debut for the Stormers earlier this year, when injury struck the Cape franchise. After partnering with Anton van Zyl against the British and Irish Lions at Newlands in June this year, should he get game time, this coming weekend will signal the youngsters Currie Cup debut.

The most significant change on the bench comes in the form of Brumbies flyhalf Matt Toomua, who displaces centre Paul Bosch. The 19 year old Australian has been brought in as cover for Peter Grant, following the news that Willem de Waal would need to undergo surgery for his neck injury. He will only be with the Cape based team for the 2009 Absa Currie Cup, and will return to Australia after the competition.

The Vodacom WP team is as follows:

 15. Joe Pietersen 14. Tonderai Chavhanga 13. Frikkie Welsh 12. Juan De Jongh 11. Gio Aplon 10. Peter Grant 9. Dewaldt Duvenage 8. Luke Watson (C) 7. Duane Vermeulen 6. Francois Louw 5. Anton Van Zyl 4. De Kock Steenkamp 3. Brok Harris 2. Tiaan Liebenberg 1. Wicus Blaauw Reserves: 16. Deon Fourie 17. JC Kritzinger 18. Martin Muller 19. Pieter Louw 20. Ricky Januarie 21. Matt Toomua 22. Sireli Naqelevuki

Referee: Paul Marks (Australia)  Kick-off is at 3pm.

    GO WP!

Tiaan is good – deserves to start again. Francois Louw is playing good rugby. Good loosie combo. De Jong the standout in the CC in WP backline.

    Gou bietjie koerante wereldwyd gelees.

Demmit, hy is goed, SA se eie Jonah Lomu!

  • 8

W.P is altyd ‘n goeie span.

    @Gambet
    Gumbed?
    Vanwaar gehasie?
    Maar welkom hier…

Btw, hier by ons in Korea beteken ‘ghambhe’ gesondheid (‘cheers’), selle as kampaai in Japanees of kampeh in Sjinees.
