Scotland 24/ 27 Ireland

(Final Score)

Scotland host Ireland this afternoon at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

Kick off at 17:00 (15:00 GMT).

This will be Scotland’s first test in 4 weeks while Ireland played their last 6 Nations game 2 weeks ago. Can Scotland bounce back from the agony of a narrow defeat at home to Wales in a game they should have won. Or will Ireland have picked up too much confidence from their big win away against Italy in their last game.

Hi Loosehead how are you? Sorry only saw your comment a few minutes ago. That is what have got used to with supporting Scotland – so many times so close but no cigar. 2 more points against Wales and 4 more against Ireland and Scotland could have been unbeaten with Italy and France to come. Wales was disappointing because it was a game Scotland should have won even being a player down. Did well to come back against Ireland to give false hope and out-scored them on the try front but it’s the overall score that counts.

Big concerns with both starting locks going off but hopefully they recover in time for France in two weeks time. Should have enough to cover for them against Italy. Russell didn’t play the whole game for his club in France the weekend before and there was speculation that he may have picked up an injury there so not sure if that played a role in his performance yesterday or whether it was the service he was getting but also a concern to see him leave the field for HIA. Backs looked more threatening when Hogg moved to flyhalf and his kicking was good so that may be an option for next game with Maitland or Huw Jones at fullback. Was crazy to see in the end scrumhalf Steele needed to come on as a forwards replacement, saw him come on but was surprised to see at the first scrum that he was there at flank, first thought was that they would have put him somewhere in the backline and put Johnson on at flank, or vd Merwe at least for the scrums, with them having more bulk.

As someone who knows a lot more about what happens in the front row what do you think of my comments about the scrums early on? Was I talking nonsense or was there too many illegal bits not picked up?
