Fantastic result for Scotland at the London 7s beating the BlitzBoks by 1 point! 27/26 to Scotland the final score. This is Scotland’s first ever World Series event title! That is how big the achievement is for Scotland
Would have been happy either way although maybe not if Scotland win cost SA the overall title but as Fiji had already won it by getting to the final it didn’t make a difference. The win for Scotland at least helps bring some joy to my fellow Glasgow Warriors fans after the disappointment of losing to Connacht in yesterday’s PRO12 semifinal.

Not much in the news, but after losing to Scotland, SA keeps on shooting itself in his own feet.
News today:
The door appears to have closed on South Africa’s intended bid, widely considered initially to be a strong one, to host the Rugby World Cup in 2023.
A statement issued on Monday from the Ministry of Sport, following a meeting late last week with the boards of SARU and the other major sports bodies in the country, said that the Government “would not rescind current penalties” on SARU, Cricket South Africa and others related to slow pace of transformation.
With the June date upon us it seems a fate accomplii that SA has to withdrew from the bid process.

Hi cane, it was a great achievement for the Thistles to win a tournament for the first time. Watched the game yesterday and it was just amazing how they came back to score two tries in such a short time the BlitzBoks would have been well justified by that point to feel safe. The start of the play ahead of the first of the last two tries was 1 minute 15 seconds before full time, it just shows how fluid the game of 7s can be. And as it didn’t cost the Blitzboks the overall trophy it was good to see.
They brought in a few players from the 15 a side game at various stages this season and I think this boosted things especially in the end as it was Dougie Fife’s tries who won it eventually. Not sure what the plan will be for next season but hopefully they will continue to improve and as we only have two (three if you include London Scottish) fully pro sides it could be good to keep using 7s as a way to develop promising players from the 15s game and try and expand our player base at the top level.
Overall Scotland ended 10th in this season, whereas last season they finished 7th (87 points this year, 89 last year) but that was a season when there was still a leg in Glasgow and when you finish off in style like this that pales into insignificance, fact is now they can boast to have won a tournament which no other Scotland 7s squad can.
Was very annoyed during and after the 2014 Commonwealth Games with one journalist who was proposing 7s was a waste of time and that Scotland should scrap their team and then there were murmours last year from some within SRU that they would be scaling back. If used correctly it should be seen as a bonus not a drain.
I know the bottom line in sport is winning but who can forget the joy that Uganda and the crowd brought to each other during the Commonwealth games in Glasgow with the crowd chanting UGANDA UGANDA! each time they played and I will never forget seeing the affection those in the stadium showed to the likes of Malaysia on the Sunday as they did a lap of honour following their last game taking ages to get round the stadium with so many people wanting to talk to them and pose with them for pictures. These things can be so uplifting and I am sure will live on in the memories of all the players that were there and the crowd. It was a pleasure to be part of the crowd that day with my lad and show him what sport should really be about.

Hi dWeePer this is not such good news, sounds like ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’ or something along those lines. Unless the tournament would have been run at a loss then surely it is an opportunity lost for the country to earn some good revenue as over and above any money that would be spent directly on rugby – match tickets etc you would think that various visitors over for the tournament would add a boost to tourism side of things.

Starting in International 7’s, is, in my humble opinion, almost perfect way to start an International Rugby Career.
Fitness, commitment, dedication, focus, Touring to foreign lands, internal team rivalry for starting spots, pride in the jersey…………………..all these things and a dozen more.
Players to come through 7’s to play at Test level for NZ.
Todd Blackadder.
Christian Cullen.
Jonah Lomu.
Eric Rush.
Zinzan Brooke.
And they are only the tip of the iceberg……………………………………….there are many more. And they are not “just All Blacks”, they are the cream of Our Crop.
7’s ……………………………all part of there developement, as players, leaders and professionals.
