I hope this is a joke. No seriously, I hope that Peter de Villiers was sarcastic in his interview in the build up to the Baa-baa’s test.

Don’t know what I am referring to?

Let me help.

Morné on ruggaworld

Peter de Villiers at the announcement of his team to face the Barbarians at Twickenham told reporters that the Springbok way of playing rugby (he has learned) is to run through players, not around them…

He did make reference later in the interview of playing a more direct game which is what suits the Springboks, and what I agree with, the old ‘earn your right to play wide’ mindset, but to say South Africans and the Springboks should rather run through players than around players goes against the very thing he preached in 2008 about taking this team to another level – the ‘head’s up rugby approach’.

It simply re-affirms our country’s limited approach to the game of union where we are just too happy to create little robots and not thinkers.

It is this type of mindset that does not allow for experts like Sherylle Calder, Tim Noakes, Tim Goodenough or Ross Tucker to provide valuable input and insight into a very complex dynamic which mentally, is as taxing as the physical demands of the game and is the 2% people refer to in the difference between a good team, and a great team at test level (or any level really).

It is the type of mindset that has turned some of the most exciting and talented young rugby stars South Africa has produced, into mindless androids.

I said it a million times, brains will always beat brawn, and expecting to run through players in the professional game at the highest level and believing you will get away with it, is definitely not using your brain.

    @ grootblousmile:
Just dug all the snow out the driveway so Mommy can get into town. The snowman is built and the dogs are zat after chasing snowballs. The backyard is beautiful…untouched as yet, even the bird feeders have litle caps of snow on them and the robins are there for their chow. Had to break the ice on the pond this morning so they can drink too.

    @ grootblousmile:
    thats my outfit too!!

@ 4man:32 – 4man, I know the feeling but it is HARD work after awhile if it snows for a few weeks. You begin to hate the snow…lol. One of the years I was in Holland, think it was 1991 we had plenty snow and to clear the drive way was no fun after awhile. Also no garages there so car just in the street, had to scrap the ice of my wind shield everyday too. No fun at all.

Overcast here today but very warm. Much prefer this weather but of course also don’t enjoy the very hot humid weather that comes in Jan. Enjoy our winter weather the most. Nothing can compare..lol.

    @ Puma:meant – scrape

@ 4man:34 – 4man, Enjoy the game. Gonna be cold but what the heck. One game I would enjoy no stress at all, cause it don’t matter too much if we win or lose on Saturday. Just hope they play a game that is good to watch.

    @ Puma:
Hey Puma…it is what it is. I have had my surfeit of sunshine and hot weather, when I come home and do a bit of hunting, diving whatever then I appreciate it all the more. British Summers are fantastic as you know and of course Spain and those other really hot places are 1 hour away. My mate got back from the Canaries yesterday…Gin and tonic on the beach in the morning and home to 9 inch snow. We are going to Tenerife shortly and then also a trip to Mallorca….probably Croatia in the Springtime. All things being equal I will get to New Mexico this year too….so as you can see, lots of different weather and conditions. New Mexico is a lot like the Karoo. My mate there is buying a little spread in Texas where we are going to shoot some white tail deer and pronghorn if we can get them (very fast)…like I said a small spread about 1000 hectare. His idea is to keep it wild and natural and when we go there we live in a tent or just kip outside under the stars….and to get around we ride the hurricane deck of a horse. Looking forward to it. They play rugby in Texas too!!

    @ Puma:
I will enjoy it thanks…just like we do every year….last year was a major hoot. Carol has ducked out of this one….some crap excuse like a wedding or something!

@ 4man:Enjoy the game 4man, Will be great.

Ja, I used to get away to the warmer countries during the winter months to break up the colder months. Always came home for Christmas though. Never missed a skiing holiday to France either. Summer months in Europe went to Italy, South of France also Spain. Nice to have those warmer countries on your door step.

One country I would love to visit is Croatia, never been there. I am coming over to Scotland next May, have booked our flights already. Going to do a cruise first in the Med. (Never done a cruise before ever) Then heading up to Scotland for 3 weeks. Also have those buggers coming to me AGAIN next September for 3 weeks. So far only 2 coming but it could be 4 of them.

New Mexico sounds great 4man. Enjoy it. Also enjoy your holiday to Tenerife. Nice to get away from the cold for a bit. Like you say only a short flight too.

    @ Ashley:
Ashley…hilarious, but thought provoking for sure. In the UK…ou’s just dont drink and drive, its amazing, you are regarded as a social outcast if you do whereas in SA people still find it funny. Of course if you’re an MP in the UK then you do all sorts of things but you get nailed big time.

  • 45

Harrington and Fisher lead the NB both on -5 at the moment. Lee Westwood 3rd for now on -4

    @ Puma:
    What passport do you have?
You can catch a long weekend in Dubrovinic….which has been a working city since the time of Christ…make sure you stay in the old town.
I am seriously thinking about settling in Croatia. The people are a lot like us, dont like rules and regulations, like to have fun, are big and strong physically (excellent sport teams). Properties are relatively cheap still…and will shortly be part of the EU, so all of those benefits. Croatian men more often than not go to sea in all the navies of the world, so the guys are well travelled, knowledgable et al. Good diving too. Seafood is fantastic.

  • 47

@ 4man:44 – Agree 4man, The drink and drive thing in this country is terrible. In most countries if you drink and drive, you are a outcast. The way it should be.

Our country needs to jack up the punishment for that. Not good at all.

  • 48

    @ 4man:46 – British and South African.

  • 49

@ 4man:46 – 4man, Croatia sounds great. The climate too is what I would like. Really want to go and look there.

  • 50

@ 4man:46 – If Croatia is going to be part of the EU then it is definitely a place I want to have a look around.

I just came back from Oz a month ago. Loved it there but I love Europe far more. Wont ever leave here forever. But still thinking of spending 6 months in Europe and 6 months here in Umhlanga. Been thinking about that for a long time now.

  • 51

@ 4man:39 – Just reading your post there again 4man. So they get rugby in New Mexico too? Sounds like a great place that.

  • 52

Cheers 4man, Going to watch the rest of the golf.

    Catch up later or tomorrow.

  • 53

    @ Puma:
Brit passport is fine for Croatia…I have both too.

  • 54

Why the fuss? It’s Div we’re talking about. Can our backline get any worse? Luckily I’m not watching the Boks again till they get rid of the moustached idiot and his 2 fools…
