Vodacom WP coach Allister Coetzee today announced his team to take on the Vodacom Cheetahs in the opening round of the 2010 Absa Currie Cup at Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The seasoned wing Frikkie Welsh has been called up to bolster the  team.

Welsh’s inclusion is the only change from the side which did duty against the Griffons in a compulsory friendly in Welkom last Friday, and the young Ikey Marcel Brache is the one to make way.

WP coach Allister Coetzee has identified the Cheetahs’ kicking as a threat as has decided to shore the side’s defence with players who can cope with the pressure of dealing with the opposition’s tactical kicking.

“We have chosen a side which brings solidity to our game, and who will be sound under the high ball,” said Coetzee on Wednesday. “We know we will be confronted by a Cheetahs side that has a great kicking game.

“There is the ploy by the Cheetahs to use their speedsters in the channels out wide and we have to be prepared for that.

“The Cheetahs are know to be a side that operate well in space.”
