Twitter Blanket Drive (#TBD) events ran as planned countrywide in Joburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Knysna and the Overberg on Saturday, 29 May 2010. Various charities will benefit from these events; Kids Haven, Roundtable, Rotary, Animal Welfare, P.E.N.,  and PASSOP.

Over 100 ‘Tweeters’ braved the cold on Saturday evening to join in the events around the country.

In addition, we ambitiously took #TBD to the rugby final as #TBD Orlando where a great deal of awareness was created for the D Hani Creche and the unenviable task of Doornkop community leader, Nthabiseng Hlangwane.  The creche is the focus point but proceeds will be distributed and benefit the greater Doornkop area through Nthabiseng’s feeding schemes and other community care initiatives.

We are still counting up the donations and will be collecting from various alternate drop off points during the course of this week.

At the latest count we have collected over 500 blankets and several big bags of clothing around the country. A small number of cash donations were also received.

Once again, the spirit  and hospitality of the community surrounding Orlando Stadium touched many hearts. The visible poverty and hardship that the community live in made an impact on many minds. There have been a lot of requests by people wanting to find out how they can still contribute.

Financial donations can be made direct to the D Hani Creche, bank details are as follows:

A professional photographer has also volunteered her time to take capture the day.
