Johannesburg, 7 January 2010… The Golden Lions Rugby Union has announced another exciting signing from International Rugby Academy of New Zealand (IRANZ) to join the franchise ahead of the 2010 Vodacom Super 14.
Player management and the threat of burn-out ahead of the 2011 World Cup has been big news in South Africa recently, but the Bulls don’t believe there is a problem. Continue reading
Our friends at the Lions made an interesting signing with news that former All Black flyhalf Carlos Spencer have joined the Lions. They are tight lipped about it all but it is understood it is also one of the biggest contracts ever in South African rugby. Continue reading
In Africa, few creatures inspire such lore and legend as the majestic king of the beasts and this is why they symbolize power and respect all through the continent, and even across the world. The masai , a nomadic warrior people from Tanzania and Kenia, believes that killing a lion with your bare hands is the single greatest achievement a man can accomplish in his lifetime (short as it may be).
Springbok captain John Smit and vice-captain Victor Matfield were honoured this week by being included in Rugby World magazine’s team of the decade. Fourie du Preez was named as one of the reserves. Continue reading

I was working today and almost every Sport bulletin on the Radio asked this question, Will they drop Ntini? The decision according to Smith on News24 is not in his hands. He even describe it as “sensitive”. When does the player become more important than the team. My feeling about Ntini is that he is one of our best players but that his current form is not at Test level.
From Monday we will be flooded by Rugby news. We will hear who is injured , we will hear how well conditioned or not the players are. The debates will start again. Who must be rested. Who did take a long enough break. Light will be shed on how players will be managed. Yes King Rugby will slowly take its rightful place.
But before that, how do we see the England Cricket tour panning out? What can we expect? Is there a way back for the Proteas?
With all the partying and recovery from all the eating and drinking, this message is a teeny weeny bit late… but still on the 1st of January 2010, can you bloody believe it!
Happy happy and a prosperous New Year, rugby friends, muppits, moepels and mopkoppe!
