Scotland took on the Wallabies today at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, Scotland today at 19:15 SA Time. The strong defending Scotts won by a solitary point, 9 / 8. Matt Giteau had a shocker with the boot today. (See match summary)

Scotland claimed their first win over Australia in nearly three decades after a defence-inspired 9 / 8 victory in their one-off Test match at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Australia dominated possession throughout but the Scots, under new coach Andy Robinson, produced a world-class defensive performance to keep the Wallabies at bay.

Scotland were leading 6 / 3 in the latter stages of the match but a Chris Paterson drop goal in the 76th minute put them 9 / 3 ahead and within sight of a win.

Australia rallied, however, and after a thrilling final three minutes in which the Scots were forced to repel wave after wave of attacks on their try line, Matt Giteau eventually touched over.

Giteau had the chance to win it for the Wallabies but his conversion attempt 28 metres out to the left of the posts went wide.

    That was tiring watching Scotland!!

OK beer in hand…. but is the party over now?

Wow! What a disturbing result. Good luck to the Scots, they played well and defended against all odds. As for the Wallas – a shocker! So many problems for Deans, aside from a great scrum platform, but the real problem, I believe, revolves around an inability to successfully break the line and set up attacking raids. This tactic of kicking the ball on attack is diabolical. I believe the obvious problem is at number 10. Sorry, but Giteau doesn’t work there. He doesn’t have the leadership skills and his attack is machinegun-like – stops and starts. The missing link is Barnes; in his absence Cooper has tried his best, but out he goes.
In the words of Ben Tune, on local television commentary after the match: “This result is potentially career-ending for someone, whether it be coach or player.”
We’ll watch with interest the fallout from this disaster.

Congrats Bravehearts – made us all proud.

Woohoo. What a night. It’s been a while since we celebrated a win like this and hopefully we have now turned the corner. Scotland haven’t been so bad for the last year, again too many people looking at the results and making conclusions that they are still poo. For too long too many teams have expected to win against Scotland, and for a while it was warranted. But the Boks were nearly shocked last year in Edinburgh, the 6N was pretty close and we were never outclassed in any game, and of course we beat the Argies on their home turf in June.

Hopefully top teams will now think twice and their fans will stop being so shocked losing a game we knew we could win. Saturday is now such a huge match for us against the Argies. Time to stand up and show it’s no one off fluke.

For once I’m pleased to be nursing a headache on a Sunday morning 🙂

Jockbok @ 44 – congratulations mate. Well done, the Scots tackled themselves to a standstill and were well deserved winners.

44 – JockBok well done to your team mate. Very pleased to see Scotland win that one. Remember they played well against the Boks last year too. What always amazes me is their supporters. They fill that stadium 100%. Knowing that their team could lose but always, always come out to support them. True supporters like that make me proud. Felt good for my Scot mates. They kept on sending me sms’es the whole game. I sent them a few and said my congrats. Think they would have had a party the whole night after 😀

45 – Old Griquas, Sorry mate for your team. Just put my support behind Scotland last night. Have so many Scottish friends. Also they have not won much and it is good for Rugby for Scotland to get their rugby up again.

Wow – Big Congrats to the Kilties 😀

I must say it is not often I feel sorry for Convicts but this humiliation was the equivalent of a pants down smack on the backside from matron in front of the other boys 😯
