Super Rugby

This weekend that was I went to a coaching course with a group of players. The course was generally speaking very informative. We rotated through different stations doing basic handling, rucking, tackling and kicking drills with lots of feedback to players and coaches.

At the end we played a game (10 players on each side) called touch and ruck. It is a really nice way to enforce some basic skills at the young age groups. Players learn about maintaining the offside line, to go up in a line on defence and on attack, to touch with both hands (essential to learn that you need to punch through with the arms when you tackle), to rip and place and to clean-out at the rucks.

Lions (7) 19 / Stormers (18) 24 (Final Score)

The MTN Lions and DHL Stormers did battle in Super Rugby at Coca-Cola Park, Johannesburg at 19:10 SA Time.

The match was broadcast LIVE on SuperSport 1, SHD & M-Net on TV in SA.

The DHL Stormers raced to an early lead, and were 15 points up early on, but the MTN Lions never gave up and with over 60% possession were always in the game.

The DHL Stormers managed to endure tremendous pressure to hold on for the win, with the MTN Lions securing a losing bonus point.

The Vodacom Bulls openside flanker and prime fetcher, who had to withdraw from the Bulls lineup the day before the Blues clash 2 weeks ago, due to a hamstring injury,  still won’t be risked this weekend against the Reds.

Dr Org Strauss and his medical team have deemed it wiser for Stegmann to rest one more week, to be ready for the Bulls clash at Newlands against the Stormers, rather than cause further damage this week against the Reds.
