The sharks have made some forced and some unforced changes as they go into battle with the Waikato Chiefs this comming weekend, none more so then the flyhalf position after the shock retirement of newly aquired Flyhalf Steve Meyer.

We wish him well, sadly did not get to see the potential there was spoken of, Maybe soon there will be a reason given for this as it is known that he would have started for the Sharks the weekend. Continue reading

Sharks recruit Meyer retires

Durban – Steve Meyer, recruited mere weeks ago to fill the flyhalf hole at the Sharks, has announced his retirement from rugby with immediate effect.

Due to personal reasons, Meyer has requested that the Sharks release him from his contract and will not be available this weekend against the Chiefs.

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl added, “Whilst this has come at an inopportune time, we respect his decision and have agreed to release him. It is fortunate that we have a number of players who can fill this position until such time as alternative arrangements can be made.”

Allister Coetzee, head coach of the Vodacom Stormers, today announced his team to play the A&G Lions at Coca Cola Park, Johannesburg, on Saturday 13 February.  Kick-off is at 17h05.

IT HAS NOW ALSO COME TO LIGHT THAT THE SHARKS WILL KEEP ALBERTS IN THE TEAM UNLESS THE COURT DECIDES OTHERWISE ON FRIDAY,

Sharks v Lions: Case heading to court , again South African rugby is not able to resolve issues that makes it show itself more spineless and useless every day.

Centre of controversy is the Loose forward, Willem Alberts, and Fullback, Louis Ludik, who’s contractual issues are not new and surely today’s outcome could have been said a month ago and planned accordingly.

For as long as rugby existed, there has been arguments about who is good, and who is better.  However, we never argue about who is absolutely rubbish, we all know that, well most of us anyway.  So, instead of writing about how good some players are, I have decided to concentrate on the more forgetful guys, the guys that history will NOT remember, and history has some very good reasons not to.

Welcome to  the third day of the first India-South Africa Test.  A lot rides on the openers today from India’s point of view. In fact Steyn and Morkel v Sehwag and Gambhir has been the big contest within the contest. This contest over four innings could well decide which way the series goes.

Welcome to day 2 of the Test between India and South Africa. Jacques Kallis has never hit a double ton before. A great opportunity for him today and if he and SA can stretch that total, it should be fun to watch how India respond.

The Stormers, albeit a very “Dirt Tracker” rendition of them, takes on Boland at the new Cape Town Stadium today and a crowd in excess of 40000 is expected. Our man on the spot, Isigidi will be in the Press Box giving us the low down as things unfold. Not only is this a warm-up match for the Sormers in preparation for the Super 14 but this is also a test in terms of the new stadium’s readyness for rugby. This is the match thread for discussion of the game.  This match is also broadcast on Tv on SuperSport 1.
