Piutau is probably the best player in the world not to have played at the RWC, top player

    @ MacroPolo:
You’re probably right…. Piutau should’ve been there at the WC…

The powers that be in NZ decided otherwise thanks to him signing for Ulster even though that contract only starts later next year. Seems quite vindictive as it’s not as if he was playing outside NZ before the World Cup and could have still been playing Super Rugby next year for Auckland if they didn’t intervene, instead he had to try find somewhere else to play in the meantime, Blues loss is Wasps gain. But hey so much depth won the World Cup anyway so it seems he was not missed. Also seems like quite a ruthless way of dealing with your players, wonder if they had earmarked a possible Olympic 7s spot for him and were miffed with his Ulster contract interfering with this. Wonder why Piutau and or Ulster went public on his contract so long before it even starts. But then again do you think he would have made the World Cup squad if this hadn’t happened, if so in whose place?

    @ Bullscot:
Hey bullscot. Its nothing for anyone to feel bitter about. The competition for an all black jersey is just THAT tough at the moment. So i dont think there is anything nefarious about him being left out… Just life.

    @ Bullscot:
It’s harsh for the individual…but the right thing for the collective…If you want to be an Ab…then you have to show loyalty and the will…

Hello both of you seem to have similar thoughts on this. He is not a player have seen much so that is why I asked the question whether he would have got in anyway if he wasn’t moving and if so in whose place.
Far be it for me to question the NZ policies as they are the best at the moment, just wonder if this was in a position of less strength say at lock so if he was Retallick would the same ruling had been made. Seem to remember NZ only went in to the tournament with 3 specialist locks as it was.
Get your point about the loyalty and will but at the same time NZ are quite happy for their coaches to be serving their international apprenticeships outside the country and earning their living improving the game of their competitors at the same time. NZ have allowed players to play abroad and then before World Cup brought them back to NZ to pick them for the teams, plus what about Sonny Bill Williams flipping between Rugby and boxing, seems the policy is not that rigid. Anyway it is a profession and as have so often said a lesson passed on to me many years ago by a wise old colleague at work was if you want loyalty get a dog.

Don’t know enough about the details so not sure what happened but with Piutau only signing up for Ulster for sometime in July 2016 I think he was available and playing in NZ during the World Cup and maybe would have been available for Super Rugby but even so he had to look for a club in the interim period as he won’t be playing for the Blues. Was this Piutau’s will or did NZ rugby chose to cut him from Super rugby as well when he could have been available?

    @ Bullscot:
I am a Blues supporter and would have liked Charles to have played 2016 Super Rugby but he was blocked by Nzru and basically forced to find another club overseas before his contract started with Ulster. I do find this action harsh but I understand the reasoning behind it. Charles was seen as a long term prospect for the Abs and was certainly good enough to go to the WC but chose to sign for an overseas club on a long term contract therefore he forfeited his right to wear the Ab jersey….and sadly the Blues also. What I’ve read lately though he is starting to light up over in Europe….wish him the best…

Rugby legend Jonah Lomu diesNovember 18, 2015

Wellington – All Blacks great Jonah Lomu, who revolutionised wing play to become rugby union’s first global superstar, died on Wednesday in Auckland at the age of 40.

    RIP Jonah.
Another one of my all time heroes has left the playing fields here beneath.
    Legend.
Now I am grateful that Habana didn’t break Jonah’s record at WC 2015. Let it stay on the books for a while longer, in this great man’s memory.
Condolences to all our Kiwi friends here on RT.

71 @ Pietman:Morning Piet. How you doing? Hope well.

Excellent post from you boet. Well said.

Lomu was a Legend. So very sad to hear of his passing.

Our thoughts are with his family.

RIP Lomu. You will forever be remembered you changed the way wings should play the game. Will always remember how you just ran over Cat from England in that semi final. Just such a awesome player. You were a giant of a player in world cup 1995. A true Legend.

Now from that 95 world cup 2 have passed on. Rubin Kruger now Lomu and we all don’t know how the great Joost has to live either. He too does not look very well to survive for another year or so. So sad that from both teams some players have passed on long before their time,

  • 75

To all our kiwi brothers here. Our thoughts are with you.
