Jake White insists he won’t take part in another drawn out application process for the vacant England head coach role.

White, who coached South Africa’s 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning squad, is 1 of the leading candidates to replace Stuart Lancaster after he parted ways with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) in the aftermath of England’s dismal Rugby World Cup campaign.

But the 52-year-old South African has twice been snubbed at the final hurdle by the RFU, when Martin Johnson took control in 2008 and when Lancaster was handed the reins in 2012.

Determined not to be messed around for a 3rd time, White has called on RFU chief executive Ian Ritchie to install him as the organisation’s Top choice before he will consider succeeding Lancaster, who was widely criticised for his lack of Top-level experience during England’s Rugby World Cup pool stage exit.

“Everyone in world rugby knows this is 1 of the prime jobs, in fact even in world sports,” White said on Thursday.

“If the RFU thinks I am the man for the job and there wasn’t going to be any rigmarole of going through the whole process, which I have before then I would be a contender.”

White also made it clear he had not received an approach from the RFU as he prepared to lead Montpellier into European Challenge Cup action at Harlequins.

“Nothing has happened, I haven’t got any calls or anything so I just need to get on with my job,” White said.

Lancaster relinquished his head coach role by mutual consent on Wednesday and the RFU immediately launched a global search for a new boss with “proven international experience”.

No sooner had that recruitment drive begun, though, than 2 other leading contenders distanced themselves from the job.

Australia’s Eddie Jones, appointed this week as head coach of the DHL Stormers, and New Zealander Wayne Smith both claimed they had no interest in any advances from England, despite the RFU vowing to break the bank for their new boss.

Jones took Australia to a runners-up berth in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and he inspired a memorable 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign for Japan that included toppling South Africa in 1 of the sport’s all-time great shocks.

Smith plans to take a break from rugby after being part of the New Zealand coaching staff that led their team to Rugby World Cup Final victory over Australia at Twickenham recently.

7 Responses to England: Jake White issues warning to RFU not to be messed around

Jeeez, he certainly has an overinflated opinion of himself and the personalty of a door knob!

Jake the Great! (I mean Grate)
If one considers that if HM was as lucky as Jake in 2007 to avoid both NZ & AUS in the RWC tournament, then he would also have been a “world champion” coach here in 2015 … and then ole HM could presumably also have told the ENG RFU not to mess him around (without the RFU even having approached him)…
    😀

    (Jake’s) Montpellier’s last 2 outings were losses of 41-18 to Harlequins & 52-8 to Toulon …

    Not very snazzy, eh?

Jake reminds me of that one Queen song… The Great Pretender!

“White also made it clear he had “NOT” received an approach from the RFU ………”

Jake could well be getting ahead of himself here.

    Pom’s don’t need a Foreign Coach…………………………just like you fukkers don’t.
In fact …………………………just keep the Old Coaches.

They have both learned a thing or 2 in the last year or so.

I don’t know about you lot, but I’ve learned more in life from my mistakes ……………….than anything else.

I hope Ritchie rots in hell for sacking Lancaster.
If anybody should be sacked, it’s the Mothers that make the appointments.

    4 @ cane:
One ONLY learns from your own mistakes, unfortunately… and not from the mistakes of others!

I call it school fees, and I’ve paid a lot of them over the years!

I say it is OK to make mistakes in life, but if you make the same mistakes more than once, then I will start questioning your basic intelligence.

    Yeah…nah
Can’t see Jakes attitude getting him the job…Making demands before you’ve even been tapped on the shoulder is a bit too much….

I see Brendan Venter has also had a go at Jake.

Maybe Venter is also interested in the England job?
