World Cup winning coach Jake White has formally welcomed the Du Plessis brothers, Jannie and Bismarck, to his French club Montpellier.

The Top 14 outfit on Wednesday confirmed the signing of the Du Plessis brothers, Bismarck and Jannie, from the Cell C Sharks.

In a brief statement on the club website Montpellier said the 2 Du Plessis brother had signed for 3 years.

The 2, who won the World Cup with White as coach in 2007, will head to France after this year’s edition of the World Cup – in England in September and October.

White welcomed the signing of the Springbok duo.

“They are very experienced,” he said on the Montpellier website.

“It’s fantastic for them to come here and share their knowledge with the players of Montpellier,” White added.

Jannie, who plays tighthead prop, is 32 and has 62 Springbok caps.

Bismarck, a 31-year-old hooker, has 70 Test caps.

Their arrival is the latest in a batch over foreign signings – which will see 7 South Africans arrive at the French club for the 2015 / 2016 season.

The new arrivals include Jannie Du Plessis (prop, from the Sharks), Schalk van der Merwe (prop, from the Lions), Bismarck Du Plessis (hooker, Sharks), Paul Willemse (second row, Bulls), Jacques du Plessis (second row and back row, Bulls), Willem Andries Liebenberg (loose forward, Bulls), Demetri Catrakilis (flyhalf, Stormers), Cameron Wright (scrumhalf, Sharks), Jacobie Adriaanse (prop, Scarlets), Nic White (scrumhalf, Brumbies), Jessie Mogg (fullback, Brumbies), Seveci Nakailagi (wing, Fiji Under-20), Julien Malzieu (wing, Clermont Auvergne) and Marvin O’Connor (wing, Aviron Bayonnais).

Ja. Go to blazers Jake. You’re stealing all our players. Flippin White mercenary.
I wear my colours on my sleeve.

Jake did not hold a gun against their heads and forced them to sign….. he only showed them a few Euro notes and mentioned something about the weakening rand I suppose 🙂

    Oh, yeah?

“Montpellier-bound Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis signed pre-contracts before Jake White’s appointment as coach of the French club.

They then tried to get out of their contracts with the club when White left the Sharks after just one season and became coach of Montpellier.

The brothers have never had a good relationship with White. However, White still wants them to join Montpellier as he rates them highly as players.

According to The Mercury, the Bok duo may have no choice but to go as they have already pre-signed with the French club – which they did before White arrived – and been paid a depost of €150,000.

The newspaper added that the Sharks had failed to keep the brothers in Durban despite significant attempts to do so …”

This explosive mix of personalities did not work at The Sharks – I’ll be surprised if it works at Montpellier.

If they had not signed there it would have been somewhere else. Their time at the Sharks was coming to an end.

    You cant really blame Jake,

Cape Town – The Stormers were unaware that captain Duane Vermeulen had travelled to France to be unveiled by his new French club, Toulon this week.
Vermeulen, 28, is currently sidelined with a neck injury and will sit out the Stormers’ Super Rugby qualifier against the Brumbies at Newlands this Saturday, which saw him to fly to France to be unveiled to Toulon fans.”

If you want loyalty, buy a dog, no player is the exception.

Did he have a choice? More a case of dutiful employee methinks:

Like Bismarck & Jannie he is just another employee – Mohed Altrad calls the shots …

    @ Angostura:
Well no he didnt have a choice, but he certainly showing them respect, i may have been fooled, and it is a case of jake following his bosses orders but i believe his comments are sincere and more importantly it is in the best interest of the club that jake extends the olive branch to his new employees.
