The Du Plessis brothers, Bismarck and Jannie, are set to sign a deal with French club Montpellier, a report in French media indicates.

Reports surfaced earlier this year that the Springbok brothers would join Montpellier on a 2-year deal after the conclusion of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, but Montpellier denied it at the time.

However, according to RMC Sport, the double signing of the Sharks duo is expected to be announced in the coming days.

The Du Plessis brothers are believed to have respected their earlier commitment despite having some contact with Toulon.

Montpellier are coached by former Springbok coach Jake White, who was quoted as saying after their weekend defeat at Stade Francais: “Big names will be announced in the coming days. To win the Top 14, you need the best players in the world.”

There is already a large South African contingent at Montpellier.

Shaun Sowerby is White’s assistant coach, while Pat Cilliers (prop), Wynand Olivier and Robert Ebersohn (both centres) already ply their trade there.

Other South Africans soon to join include Jacobie Adriaanse (Llanelli Scarlets, prop), Schalk van der Merwe (Lions, prop), Demetri Catrakilis (Stormers, flyhalf), Jacques du Plessis (Bulls, loose forward / lock), Cameron Wright (Sharks, scrumhalf / flyhalf) and Wiaan Liebenberg (Bulls, loose forward).

    Great news:

Referee Rohan Hoffmann and TMO George Ayoub have been demoted following their officiating in the Sharks’ defeat to the Waratahs in Sydney.

Ayoub made two crucial calls, disallowing what appeared a legitimate try by the Sharks’ S’bura Sithole, after awarding a contentious try to Waratahs wing Taqele Naiyaravoro, despite no clear evidence that the ball was grounded.

Those two calls, as well as Hoffmann’s general handling of the match, have been strongly criticised, leading Sanzar’s game manager Lyndon Bray to take action.

    @ MacroPolo:
    Bravo.Shamed into taking action?/?/

Hoffmann is running the touch for the Force game this weekend, so I am failing to see how action has been taken against him.

They will always cover for each other.

Rohan stuffed up the Stormers match badly too.

    Good riddance.

    Sadly he’ll probably be back.

    Bring back neutral refs.

Sithole’s try was always debatable because it wasn’t clear to the eye that he’d actually touched the chalk with his foot. They replayed it so many times and I was convinced. Naiyaravoro’s try was not a try because nobody could convince me that one could see the ball grounded. I was gobsmacked when he was awarded the try. That was straight robbery.

That said; I cannot think of one SA side who played this weekend, who actually deserved to win their match. Not even the Sharks. It was one of their better performances certainly but their backline still looks abysmally lacking in quality IMO. JP is actually shocking. He plays for 5 minutes and hides for 75, flailing his arms and pretending to look interested. Any idiot can see he’s not there to play. What a dick.

The Lions were simply outplayed by the better, classier team on the day. The Brumbies are packed with Wallabies and just because they are not All Blacks doesn’t mean they are not the real deal. Because they most certainly are and they pumped us good and solid to prove that point. I think, on current form, we will not beat the Oz in the RC in the lead-up to the RWC. Our rugby is looking rotten to the core with the exception of the scrums.

Hi Tassies hope that isn’t the case, don’t worry there are top quality reinforcements the Boks can call on from up north – Francois Louw, Bryan Habana, Ruan Pienaar, Morne Steyn, Franco vd Merwe, Schalk Brits, CJ Stander (yes I know he seems to be eager to play for Ireland BUT don’t think he would be available to play for them until sometime late in the knockout stages of this World Cup, so if Mr Meyer made a call who knows he may be tempted…), would also have said Ulster’s Franco vd Merwe who has been playing so well he has made it into the PRO12 ‘dream team’ this season but he seemed to pick up a nasty ankle injury playing against Glasgow on Saturday.
Although of course Aus have changed their policy and could also call on some players from up north, will be interesting to see if they do who they will bring in, Drew Mitchell and Brock James are just two good ones off the top of my head.
