It was to be expected. This Blues team will cause a few upsets still on the home straight. All there games are at home from here on. All Sa supporters should get behind them and the Stormers if we want a home semi final.

Brenden Nel explains the deeper reasons why Pieter Rossouw left the Bulls, and what that says about the way the franchise is run.

Vodacom Bulls coach Pieter Rossouw’s announcement that he was leaving the Pretoria franchise this week went by rather quietly. Most speculation was on whether or not the DHL Stormers would pick him up.
But Rossouw’s departure wasn’t just because of family reasons. It involved frustration at a lack of say in the Bulls structures, as well as a coaching set-up which is trying to be progressive but seems to be struggling with inclusivity.
Those close to the Loftus Versfeld training field know that while Rossouw was always the gentleman and never one to complain, he was a frustrated man. The only backline coach to have no say in his backline selection, one who reads about player acquisitions in the papers, and then having to simply sit back and watch as the Bulls’ old boys club took over the running of the team – it was only a matter of time before he decided enough was enough.
And who could blame him? Under Rossouw’s guidance the Bulls flourished in 2009 and 2010. But the arrival of Victor Matfield to the coaching staff changed things.
Matfield turned to coaching after the World Cup, and has a contract until 2016. As for Rossouw, well, five months before his contract is due to end the Bulls couldn’t even tell him whether or not they were going to offer him a chance to stay. So he decided to take the decision out of their hands. It’s something that may come back to haunt them later.
The Bulls never gave Rossouw a chance. A stranger in a strange land, Rossouw initially had success but as the tide turned he was given less and less of a say, eventually sitting mum in selection meetings after being consistently overruled.
With Ludeke at the helm, the power rests with Matfield. He is in charge of the attack. He decides how they want to play. He commands immense influence in team selection. Matfield holds all the aces.
These aren’t stories Rossouw has told me. He is too polite to be spilling the beans. But they’ve filtered down through players, management members and others who were involved – people who are feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the way things have been run.
It could be that centralising all the power pays dividends; it has happened before. Sometimes hard decisions are necessary to achieve the desired results. But to those standing on the sidelines, it’s difficult not to say, “I’ve seen this all before.”
The Bulls are blessed with a host of talented players, but that talent has often been stunted by a rigid game plan, whereby flair is sacrificed for momentum. Watch the Bulls closely and see how time and again 0they rely on forwards to create momentum, and only then do they attack out wide. The Bulls have backed themselves into believing this is the only shape on attack they can follow. It is a mantra that is drummed into them until nothing else remains.
Which is not to say that the pattern is ineffective. The franchise remains one of the best in South African rugby. Over time, the Bulls will no doubt consolidate and use their talent to be one of the best teams in world rugby. It’s just sad that a rogue voice, someone who offers a different viewpoint like Rossouw, won’t be there to counter or balance the sentiments. One more different viewpoint has left the system.
As the Bulls themselves so often say: “Everyone knows the way the team plays, the difference is execution.” Their conformity is often a reason for their success, but their inability to change is often the reason when they fail.
Rossouw’s departure will leave the province poorer.
Because the Bulls could use a different idea every now and then.

The Bulls won’t win anything for a long time, not until they get rid of the useless Broeders triad of Barend, Frans and Victor and all their acolytes like Pine Pienaar and Xander
Fortunately the fans wised up and voted with their feet this year, and they’ll do it again, eventually the money will run out and SAIL might clean out the poor management to protect their investment
Unfortunately we’ll have to start from the beginning like the Lions did

I see Jano Vermaak’s signing with WP has finally been announced by the WPRU.
He has signed for 2 and a half year from 1 July 2015.
