Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has named his team to tackle the Lions in a Super Rugby clash in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Joe Pietersen has been moved from flyhalf to fullback, with Willie du Plessis given the No 10 jersey.

With both Willie le Roux and Coenie van Wyk out with ankle injuries, Drotske decided to move the versatile Pietersen to fullback.

The latest news is that Coenie Ooshuizen has also pulled out with a back injury and he has been replaced at tighthead prop by Maks van Dyk.

In other changes to the team that lost 18 / 17 at home to the Reds last weekend, Danie Minnie starts at loosehead prop, replacing BG Uys who is suffering from a back injury. Caylib Oosthuizen comes in on the bench as prop cover.

Tienie Burger replaces Heinrich Brüssow at flank after the latter broke his arm against the Reds. Carel Greeff will provide loose forward cover from the bench.

With Du Plessis promoted to the starting team, Clayton Blommetjies also comes in on the bench.

Good move by Naka…..hopefully this Willie chap doesn’t also suffer from the “Cheetah yips syndrome” like Joe and Sias before him…..seems like wearing a Cheetah jersey with the nr. 10 on your back makes you incapable of slotting a penalty from dead in front

    @ Victoriabok:
Nie gese hy is nie, Sias is ook n goeie skopper.
Ek het gese hulle skop reg voor die pale mis as hulle vir Vrystaat speel.

Good move for little Joe. He is more suited to fullback.
He has good step, steady left foot at poles and touch and quicker than you think.
I have always been a fan and you will always get more than 100%.
I think it is a bloody cheek to call him a journeyman.

But that last kick to win the match on Saturday. That was a gimme.

The Article has been updated, with the news that Coenie Oosthuizen is out with a back injury, replaced in the starting tighead prop position by Maks van Dyk.

The injury to Coenie will be a further blow to the Cheetahs hopes of turning their season around this week. The Lions should have the upper hand up front, and if they can starve their backline of ball, the 4 tries should happen. I think the Cheetahs will be competitive for the first 20-30 minutes as the Lions work their rustiness from the bye off. Then we will take control and run riot in the second half as we clear our bench.

    8 @ Lion4ever:
Your team should take the game on Saturday… and maybe even by some margin!

    @ grootblousmile:
Agree, but the Cheetahs can cause an upset. Just when you think they are beaten, they will suddenly up the tempo and score a few tries against you, and before you know it, they are within a few points, ans suddenly you have to tighten up.

If the Lions don’t start scoring tries here they never will… Then again the Lions might try to run it an loosen the game up, working AGAINST their strengths and letting the limping cheetahs back in the game.

Similar to the Stommers 2012 season where every Thursday we heard how they are going to get the bonus point on the weekend 😆 then again these Lions may be different?
