Owens is a good ref….but when he officiates in the SH he plays the teams and circumstances the way we like it.
But now he is back in his home ground fields, so it’s not the same…..in the NH they are much quicker to blow when a player gets slightly isolated, but when the are in the SH they allow the game to go on for those extra few seconds allowing for the game to speed up and be more of a spectacle.
They are also much less pedantic when they do games in the SH IMO.

I agree on the coles incident. Not so much looking at the replay. But the communication between the ref and the tmo was appalling.

Hi Nama, ek dink daai wen (teen NZ) kan dalk nog groot dinge vir ons in die medium termyn beteken, dis moeilik want Mnr Meyer het omtrent dieselfde ouens gekies wat so goed gedoen het daai dag, al maak hy wat se plan vir hulle in oefening is die spelers die ouens wat dit moet doen daar op die veld en van wat ek lees is dit baie van die spelers wat baie foute gemaak het.
MAAR klink my Ierland se verdediging was baie goed en Sexton het ‘n barshou gespeel. Hierdie wen vir hulle gee my net meer admiration vir NZ afrigters en spesifiek hier die Ierland coach Joe Schmidt wie ek dink puik is. Onthou onder hom het hulle die 6 Nasies gewen in sy eerste seisoen in beheer, maar daar was baie van die top ‘ou manne’ afwesig gister – of beseer of uitgetree – O’Brian, Ferris, O’Driscoll, Best, Cullen en selfs Henry wat baie laat dit nie kon maak nie en deur Ruddock vervang is.
Schmidt het baie goed gedoen met Leinster, hier is ‘n bietjie oor sy agtergrond wat geskryf is toe hy ‘n kandidaat was vir die Ierland job : “Joe Schmidt has yet to coach at International level, but he has shown himself to have what it takes. Having had success coaching school 1st XVs and New Zealand Schools, he then coached Bay of Plenty to Ranfurly Shield glory for the only time in its history. After three years as assistant coach at the Blues, he joined Clermont as assistant to Vern Cotter, where the club won the Top 14 title for the first time in its history. The success in winning consecutive Heineken Cup titles with Leinster spoke volumes about Schmidt’s ability.”

Ja, dit het glad nie gelyk of die spelers gepitch het nie. Ek kan net dink aan Vermeulen en Coetzee wat by tye gelyk het asof hulle iets wil probeer. Die voorry het goed gedoen in die skrums, maar dit was ook maar al wat hulle gedoen het.

It’s an assumption that stems from the early days of our readmission…we easily beat the NH teams by large margins, but they have gotten better due to a variety of reasons….the Heineken Cup is a quality competition, the influx of SH coaches and players ( France are suffering slightly because they haven’t quite got the balance right with having too many SH players in key positions in their Club sides)
We in the SH also too easily dismiss the European Cup (Heineken Cup) and are convinced that the Super Rugby is the best provincial tournament in the World. How many times have we heard that the SR winners will easily beat whoever won the Heineken Cup?
From 2016 the SR will be even more diluted and less of a challenge, so the trend might even further change and the NH teams might close the gap even more.

Yeah, by bowling Parnell in the 19th over when he was already going for plenty.
Not just that, but also by bowling Parnell (who was going for plenty right from the onset) for his full quota of 4 overs, by not bowling himself (Duminy) for at least 1 or 2 overs, by not himself (as one of our top batsmen) going in to bat at #4 but going in at #6 in a 20 over game … WTF, Duminy played himself right out of this game whilst the team was in dire need of his experience & skill …

I’ll go along with that – in the shorter form of the game the spinners can come into their own by taking the pace off the ball. The aussies meanwhile opened with an off spinner. As a captain, you have to mix it up including knowing when to bowl yourself particularly if you are not a frontline bowler.
Sucks to lose. But abott really did well to get into the world cup squad, perhaps the ony ppositive

Sydney – JP Duminy has been withdrawn from the upcoming five-match One-Day International (ODI) Series against Australia due to a chronic patella tendinopathy to his left knee.
Farhaan Behardien, who is currently in Australia for the T20 International (T20I) series, will replace Duminy in the squad.
Marchant de Lange has also been added to the squad to bolster the pace-bowling resources.
“JP aggravated his long-standing knee injury during the current T20 series against Australia,” said Proteas team manager, Mohammed Moosajee.
“This is the same injury that plagued him during the Tri-series in Zimbabwe and caused him to miss the Champions League T20,”
“The recommendation from the medical committee is that he returns back to South Africa for a six-week period of rest and rehabilitation, particularly ahead of a busy season at home and the ICC World Cup in three months.”
The ODI squad will gather in Perth on Monday, ahead of the first ODI at the WACA on Friday.
