Boland Cavaliers

Former player Dewey Swartbooi will temporarily act as head coach of the Boland Cavaliers for the remainder of the season.

This follows the suspension of Abe Davids as coach, pending the outcome of a disciplinary investigation into his alleged coaching qualification.

Davids, who is the brother of Boland president Francois, was appointed as Cavaliers head coach in September last year.

At the time of his appointment, Davids was given the opportunity to provide proof of the qualification, but the evidence has not been presented and inquiries to the IRB and SARU have confirmed that he did not have the IRB Level 3 coaching qualification at that stage.

Swartbooi has been an assistant coach of the Cavaliers since 2012 and represented the Boland at centre from 2006 to 2010. Previously in his career Swartbooi also played for the Blue Bulls, Lions and Cats in the Super Rugby competition. In 2002 Swartbooi was also a member of the victorious SA Under-21 rugby team that won the Junior World Cup.

Andries Human will provide assistance as forwards coach of the Cavaliers for this period.

Human played prop for the Boland Cavaliers from 2001 to 2003 and again from 2006 to 2008. From 2003 to 2006 he was a stalwart for the Bulls in Super Rugby and in 2004 he represented the South Africa A team.

One Response to SA Rugby: Swartbooi takes over at Boland

I really liked Dewey. I remember him as a tough as nails defender in a low era of bulls rugby and he was a very promising player in general.

Looking at his record it is amazing that he is “only” 32 years old.

he only played 49 games in 8 years… thats 6 games a year. It is a shame injuries hounded him so much.

Goodluck Dewey I wish some success as coach
