Kieran Read

Crusaders skipper Kieran Read was stood up by Michael Hooper

NSW Waratahs have stoked the fire ahead of the Super Rugby final after skipper Michael Hooper failed to turn up for a photo promoting Saturday night’s blockbuster.

Hooper was supposed to be photographed alongside Crusaders captain Kieran Read and the Super Rugby trophy on Friday.

But the All Blacks No.8 and reigning IRB Player of the Year got sick of waiting and walked off ANZ Stadium with Hooper still a no-show 20 minutes after the scheduled time.

The Waratahs skipper led his side in a captain’s run on Friday morning at Allianz Stadium and may have underestimated the Sydney traffic.

The missed promotion isn’t likely to please the Crusaders or governing body SANZAR but will add spice to an already frosty relationship between the two sides.

Hooper did eventually arrive in Homebush and was photographed with the trophy.

    Not to worry Kieran.

Maybe it’ll be dejavu come Saturday.

With Hooper nowhere in sight as the cameras focus on you with the trophy AGAIN.

apparently tahs training ran late and Hooper was on the way.. guess the Saders staying next to the stadium shows where their concentration is.

should be a cracking game, cant wait..

    Headline should read:
“IRB Player of the Year too Self-important to wait for running-late Waratahs captain”.

Who is the baddy here…? Certainly not Michael Hooper who cannot drop his teammates at practice while he swans off for the PR glory/duties and was on his way to keep his commitment.
Once again though Kieren Read proves his immaturity and arrogance and throws his toys after having to wait only 20 minutes.
What about your mobile boy…? Could you or one of the Cru PR people not phone and find out what was happening and where Hooper was?
Typically though, rather than sorting it out like an adult, Read wastes no opportunity to make a storm out of a sneeze and show he is too big a deal to be kept waiting by a mere Tahs captain and overrun practice.

His childish behaviour is conduct unbecoming a New Zealand All Black Captain.

Just like it was conduct unbecoming to gee-up the Christchurch crowd to boo and harass the Stormers in 2012.
Just like it was conduct unbecoming to lie and tell Poite that Bismarck did not use his arms in ‘that’ tackle.

He is an embarrassment to the great All Black culture and every captain prior to him.

Oh okaay, faarkim then, if that’s his attitude….
I must admit, though, he comes across as a very humble and modest man during the few interviews I have seen of him after matches.
I should further admit that I am a Hooper fan!

AmazedAre you suggesting that you may have found one of the final examples of a near extinct specie? The well balanced Aussie??

Nah can’t be. Just looked at a photo of the young man and I can’t see a chip on both shoulders thereby rendering him “well balanced”.

    @ Pietman:

Just my perception of him bud…

And I know many will disagree with me completely… 😉

According to “Rugbyheaven” the Waratahs had requested Read to remain at ANZ Stadium after their captain’s run to allow photographers and TV crews to capture images of him and Hooper posing with the trophy.

He did so but Hooper never arrived at the allocated time for the promotion. After waiting for around 20 minutes Read, who posed for pictures on his own, departed the stadium.

A Crusaders spokesperson said Read had to attend a team function and couldn’t wait any longer.

“We are not trying to play any tricky games here. It was just we couldn’t have Reado running late because he had a team function to attend.

“If we had all day to wait, then it would have been okay. He would have waited.”

Hooper arrived an hour late. Read had already left and posed for photographers on his own.

    Seems fair to me.

    Any predictions for tomorrow?

    @ robzim:

    always good thanks rob… you…?

a tough one to call… crusaders were awesome in their dismantilitation 😉 of the sharks… and are the team to beat…

but i think the Tahs have something really good building with the team… and think they will squeak a close one… and i’ll be rooting for them…

  • 11

    sorry rob… forgot to ask…

who’s your pick for the trophy…?

  • 12

    cheers

    @ ufo:

    @10 and 11

    Also good thanks.

Very hard to make a call.. my heart say Tahs but somehow I think the Saders will have too much class and experience for them.

    Saders by 3.

  • 14

    @ ufo:

Cheers… good luck with the prep.

    @ ufo:

That gee up to the band was a disgrace.

  • 16

I am going with the Tahs at home.

    Just have a feeling.

  • 17

    @ ufo:

UFO, what exactly did he do in CHCH against the Stormers?

  • 18

    @ Stormersboy:

    Let’s hope.

    😆

    @ gunther:

Hope has been a key word in recent years. 😆

    UFO

surely the onus should have been on the Tahs management/PR people to ring Read or the Saders PR men, as it was their tardiness after all.. they were going to be late, their responsible to inform the other party imho.

or, if you were running late for a work meeting, would you expect those there to ring you to find out when youre turning up?

but if that pushes you to dislike Read, so be it.

Ok, valid point, I take my “faarkim” back, apologies mate! Angel Censored :

    Look I don’t really care.

But if I has a preference the kiwis would go home empty handed.

To be honest the fact that Mavis is using starch on my boxers is bothering me far more.

    😆

  • 23

    @ gunther:

    Change your maid.

  • 24

Just a non event that used by the media to fabricate a ‘controversy’ 😐
The real event that needs to be debated; how much can Joubret take to the bank for his ‘efforts’?
    😆

  • 25

    @ gunther:
    22
we don’t care either! (of your domestic issues with the maid)
    😀

  • 26

    @ NZINCHINA:

South Africa has very strict labour laws. Mavis would have Cosatu on my lawn in an instant.
It would be easier to start supporting the Crusaders.

    😆

  • 27

    @ Hondo:

Why are you incapable of stringing a coherent sentence together?

    😆

  • 28

So that’s settled then Tahs by 12.

    😆

  • 29

    13 @ robzim:

cheers rob… a tough call and will be a very hard fought close game… let’s hope we get some great rugby on display for us stress-free saffa viewers…!

    enjoy the game…

    15 @ gunther:
