Kieran Read

Crusaders skipper Kieran Read was stood up by Michael Hooper

NSW Waratahs have stoked the fire ahead of the Super Rugby final after skipper Michael Hooper failed to turn up for a photo promoting Saturday night’s blockbuster.

Hooper was supposed to be photographed alongside Crusaders captain Kieran Read and the Super Rugby trophy on Friday.

But the All Blacks No.8 and reigning IRB Player of the Year got sick of waiting and walked off ANZ Stadium with Hooper still a no-show 20 minutes after the scheduled time.

The Waratahs skipper led his side in a captain’s run on Friday morning at Allianz Stadium and may have underestimated the Sydney traffic.

The missed promotion isn’t likely to please the Crusaders or governing body SANZAR but will add spice to an already frosty relationship between the two sides.

Hooper did eventually arrive in Homebush and was photographed with the trophy.

nz… we’ve discussed this before on keo, bud…
when things were not going to plan for the Cru… read was chirping much better to the ref and the crowd booed and read waved his arms in a gesture encouraging the crowd and the band to make even more noise… to the point that when Popper Pete had to take a penalty about 4 or 5 metres from the band… they played even more loudly trying to put poor pete off his already shakey stride…
was not a good look for a (then) prospective AB captain…
and was not a good look for a city celebrating its first home game since the tragic earthquake…

    20 @ nga puhi:

sure poppa… of course they could have… but it is the Cru and Read who were… apparently… “fuming” for being “stood up”… nothing that a quick phone call could have prevented… if they really wanted to sort out any problem…
but then why waste a perfect opportunity for some faux indignation, hey…?

even their “We are not trying to play any tricky games here… If we had all day to wait, then it would have been okay…” is dripping with sarcasm and more than a little self-righteousness…

but hey… if that pushes you to not liking me… then so be it…!

The Crusaders think they are gods gift to Rugby, anything that takes them down a peg or two is OK in my book.
