Schalk Burger

DHL StormersSchalk Burger returns to the DHL Stormers line up as captain for this weekend’s match against the Bulls in Cape Town.

Burger who was in fine form for the Springboks in the June test series returns after missing the Stormers last game through injury. Springbok Sevens star Seabelo Senatla comes into the match day 22 for what looks to be his Super Rugby debut for the Cape based franchise. Senatla gets the nod due to Kobus Van Wyk not being available through injury.

Injuries have necessitated some positional shifts with Sailosi Tagicakibau lining up in the 13 jersey and Juan De Jongh will play at 12 in the absence of injured Bok newcomer Damian De Allende.

Several players return to the match day 22 after injury layoffs including Gio Aplon who starts in the 14 jersey and Tiaan Liebenberg and Siya Kolisi will add much needed cover off the bench.

The Stormers team is as follows:

Stormers: 15 Jaco Taute, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Sailosi Tagicakibau, 12 Juan de Jongh, 11 Cheslin Kolbe, 10 Kurt Coleman, 9 Nic Groom, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Schalk Burger (Captain), 6 Nizaam Carr, 5 Ruan Botha, 4 Michael Rhodes, 3 Pat Cilliers, 2 Deon Fourie, 1 Alistair Vermaak
Replacements: 16 Tiaan Liebenberg, 17 Sti Sithole, 18 Martin Dreyer, 19 Manuel Carizza, 20 Siya Kolisi, 21 Louis Schreuder, 22 Peter Grant, 23 Seabelo Senatla.

Referee: Craig Joubert

    Interesting selection.

JdJ at inside centre with Tagicakibau at outside centre. Shows some adventure. The conservative selection would’ve been, Grant at 12 and JdJ at 13.

    Gio is back.

Senatla making his debut from the bench.

Ruan Botha to outclass VM or whoever the Bulletjies select.

    GO STORMERSSSS. Moer die Bulle.

Still a very decent team, combinations in the backline are untested but what the heck, neither team is in the playoffs so lets get it on!

Centers also concern me, and I can only surmise that Deon will move to flank somewhere during the match when Tiaan comes on?

Too many threads too fast, difficult to follow and/or to develop some debate or argument

About 93.5% of the Stormers SR victories achieved under SARU referees since 2011 season
The Bulls stand 2nd tall at a 91.3% of their SR victories under the Jouberts, Jonkers, Peypers and Co.
It means that unless a overnight change of priorities at SARU – which currently seemed to be sending another SA team to the Play Offs – the Stormers will have to take the pain đŸ˜‰
Hope the Stormers’ supporters will back their beloved team with their money, the taking during the June Tests was meager to say the least, we need few ‘expectations’ to inject some cash in the lackluster competition
