The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd is pleased to announce the signings of Adriaan Strauss, Trevor Nyakane, Pieter Labuschagne and Jamba Ulengo.  All three forwards will join the Vodacom Bulls on November 1st, 2014, while Ulengo has already started training with the Vodacom Blue Bulls.

Springbok hooker Strauss, who captained the Toyota Cheetahs in recent seasons, was South Africa’s Vodacom Super Rugby Player of the Year in 2013 and returns to Loftus Versfeld, where he made his Vodacom Super Rugby career in 2006 after a seven year absence. He has signed a two year deal.

Blue Bulls Media Release

Strauss was a member of the Vodacom Blue Bulls squad that shared the Absa Currie Cup in 2006 and the Toyota Free State side that won it the next year. He became a Springbok in 2008 and has played 34 times for South Africa (with 5 tries). He is also the Toyota Cheetahs’ most experienced player with 97 caps, (added to the eight Vodacom Bulls caps).

Springbok prop Nyakane has signed with the Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls till October 2017, Springbok squad member Labuschagne signed till the end of October 2016 as did Springbok Sevens flyer Ulengo.

The 25 year old Nyakane, who was first spotted as a youngster playing for the Limpopo Blue Bulls at Craven Week, made his provincial debut for the Toyota Free State in 2011, his Vodacom Super Rugby debut for the Toyota Cheetahs in 2012 and his Springbok debut in 2013. He has played four tests and scored one try in his international career this far.

Pretoria-born Labuschagne also came through the ranks at the Free State, having represented the union at school boy, junior and senior level, as well as playing Vodacom Super Rugby for the central franchise. The 25-year old was part of the Springbok training group in 2013, but injuries in 2014 prevented him from pushing for higher honours.

Ulengo was a regular on the IRB Sevens World Series circuit, having played for the Springbok Sevens team since 2012. He is also a former Toyota Free State age group and Absa Currie Cup player.

BBC’s High Performance manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg also confirmed the extension of their current contracts of the Kriel twins, Dan and Jesse, till 2016.

“We are pretty excited about these signings as all of them are proven performers at the highest level,” Janse van Rensburg said.

“These players are all very keen to share in our vision of becoming the number one team in both Super Rugby and Currie Cup and to help us achieving those milestones. These are important and significant signings, as they show that we are still seen as a pathway to international honours and the winning of tournaments and cups by established, as well as emerging players,” Janse van Rensburg said.

“The decision of Adriaan to join us will not also add depth to our hooking position, but with his extensive role as captain, will also provide fantastic leadership and solid international experience.”

Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls head coach Frans Ludeke was also very pleased to have them on board.

“We believe all of these guys will contribute significantly to our effort and vision to be a team of excellence. They will also add to potential shortcomings we have identified in our structures and I am looking forward working with players of their calibre.”

For a change some intelligent signings in positions where it was really needed!

The front row should now be sorted for next year, Loosies looking better… just need a good fetcher as backup to Stegmann still (my wish on that would be Jaco Kriel of the Lions).

Good to add some depth at wing… now we still need a great fullback!

So at last the worst kept secret in SA rugby is official…..Strauss going to the Bulls.
    a Powder Blue Tellietubby, that’s a first
    Wink

The ‘Intelligent signing’ would be Carr for a loosie?
    Or\and
    JP for a wing?
    😉
Will do a world of good for the ’emerging’ Bulls, they may not win a SR title again (with Aus and NZ still in the competition) but their CC campaign looks formidable now!
    😆

He thought it was a new code of conduct regarding punctuality that they put in front of him…..before he knew what hit him he finds himself in pink.

    @ nortierd:
“Intelligent” by the Bulls maybe, but not do by Adriaan, I fear…a real loss for the Cheetahs.
Bulls hookers always seem to be coming and going, ever since Derek Kuun left….Chili, Bongi, Willie Wepener, Maku and who else ?

ek verstaan nou nie so lekker nie met die bulls se puik junior spanne waarom is dit nodig om so woes te koop

  • 8

    @ nortierd:

    7 @ smallies:
    Hehehe

  • 12

    6 @ Pietman:
And Kuun wasn’t even supposed to play hooker, he was like Deon Fourie, a retreaded flank.
Think Gary Botha was their last real proper hooker

  • 13

    @ MacroBull:
Stront man, skaam julle, om n man so te flous….en dit nog seker terwyl hy nie eers ordentlik wakker was ook nie 🙄

  • 14

    10 @ Pietman:
Adriaan en Richardt Strauss is neefs, as ek dit nie mis het nie…

  • 15

    5 @ nortierd:
Or a “two for the price of one” contract offer with the big M.

Is it true that Adriaan said that the fastest he ever saw Trevor move was when he threw a King Steer Burger instead of a ball, down the middle at line out practice?

    Overjoy

strauss is a super signing. the bulls will win and so will he.

more money and better management will also keep strauss in the country.

  • 17

    Fukken poachers!
Can’t even develop their own talent.

  • 18

    @ nortierd:
Except that Deon is a retarded flank.

  • 19

    13 @ nortierd:
Man, ek sê jou… die Bulls het Trevor Nyakane gekry vir sy dans moves na hy ‘n drie gedruk het.

Die ander Bulls ouens sukkel bietjie met die dansery…

  • 20

    @ nortierd:

    24 @ MacroBull:
    Etzakkerly!

It’s not our fault their Contracting man is worse at negotiating than farking Xander Janse van Rensburg at the Bulls!!

  • 27

  • 28

moving to the bulls is the only way strauss could be selected for the springboks.

  • 29

    @ grootblousmile:
Die dansery ook ja…maar iemand sal moet spasie maak daar voor vir Trev ‘Baartman’…hoe daai man op n vliegtuig sitplek pas wil ek graag sien Amazed

Amazing….one thread about the Bulls, and that being about the singing of a Tellietubby and one of the 7 dwarves (Sleepy) of all things, and all of a sudden the floodgates open regarding posts made.

Shame, it’s understandable though, for the last few months while the Super Rugby was played they had buggerall to talk about
