Japanese Rugby club Toshiba Brave Lupus have announced that Springbok Frans Steyn and All Black flanker Tanerau Latimer have signed with the club.

The club have won the Japanese Top league four times and already have the likes of Richard Kahui and Cooper Vuna on their books.

Twenty-eight-year-old Chiefs flanker Latimer has been with the Chiefs since 2007 after making his Super Rugby debut for the Crusaders in 2006.

Speaking on the Lupus site Latimer said, “I am very much looking forward to being able to join the Toshiba Brave Lupus because it is one of the strongest team in Japan, I will do my best to make it stronger. I am very happy that I had an opportunity like this.”

Latimer has won five All Black caps and has captained the New Zealand Maori team.

Sharks back Frans Steyn can play at fullback, centre or flyhalf and is known for his big kicking abilities. This will not be the first time that Steyn has left South Africa as between 2009 and 2012 Steyn played in France for Racing Metro.

Steyn returned from France in 2012 and helped the Sharks win the Currie Cup title in 2013 and has won 53 caps for the Springboks. He was not selected for the 2013 end of year tour.

“To play for the Toshiba Brave Lupus is a great honour,” said Steyn on the Lupus site.

“I want to study Japanese culture and language, and more than anything I hope to help the Toshiba Brave Lupus win.”

Both players will complete their Super Rugby commitments before leaving for Japan.

Keo.comedy may well have fallen from it’s once lofty perch.
But we should always remember “The best of Times”.
and not the years of dereliction and abandonment dished out to the faithful in the fading years.
    .
Without Voldy, most likely, there would never have been a groot (GBS).
Without Groot there was/is no RT.
    .
And like it or not, all the former Voldy Posters were passionate people, very passionate.
And I loved the worst of them, as much as I loved the best of them.

    Jare laas n koerant gekoop

Sure, I also had good times there… but then it just got too bad, with no owner or webmaster control at all.

That one poor farker who was their webmaster… IG, shame the dude had his hands full at times.

Bit of a farknut, I met him at Forresters Arms near Newlands once…

After him there was Roy… but that dude was just, well absent and unable to do anything straight anyway.

    @ nortierd:
Back in the days when Voldy had a hands on Moderator/Censor, everything ticked along quite nicely………………….albeit with 3 or 4 banning a week.
As for “I love you bakkkies” he was quite a character. And yes I did have a soft spot for him.
    .
I will see him in hell one day.

    @ cane:43

Don’t know about the “Glory Years” as I only registered in early 2012 although I had been reading for months before that.

There were plenty of lekker (nice) guys there but they weren’t the problem.

And Keo had the cheek to call himself a “Communications Manager” when he was still blowing the SARU trumpet?

    Bwahahahahaha

  • 54

    52 @ cane:
Pietman and myself copped a few bans ourselves, and our buddies would moan incessantly till we were restored to full force… and then it just began again… hehehe

Fark, how Rugby-Talk has changed me for the better!

  • 55

    @Cane
    Overjoy

  • 56

@ Ashley: Cheers asba…I mean boet!

    😆

    53 @ BrumbiesBoy:
Goeie moer we made kak on Voldy at times… like the time we all changed our nicknames, within an hour, to Jan-something, in sympathy with the Jan Player 23 campaign, slagged by Keo in an article.

We made havoc… in rapid succession!

  • 59

    @ grootblousmile:
When Ig left, it was the beginning of the end.
Roy was just a waste of time. A COMPLETE AND UTTER waste of time.
Then there was just a free for all.
    .
BUT………………………….still many many great Posters and Personalities continued to give the Keo.carcass life and vigor.
    (One Puma springs to mind.)

Remember the time I and a few others on Voldy made the papers… the article by farking Debbie Smith about blogging?
