    @ MacroBull:
“On the Stormers it is a two way street, People should either decide if they want the stormers to win or play exciting rugby,…”

Why can’t they do both. The Chiefs do it…the Saders do it…the Brumies do it on a good day…the Tahs do it… the Canes do it… the Landers do it… the Cheetahs do it on a good day…

It can be done. We just have to learn to do it regularly.

mind you, taking into consideration the fark ups tv refs make in rugby the football authorities might have a point…

If one never watched this game you would be able to write the following report from the comments Here. I really feel this is a accurate report.

Handrè Pollard played a key role as the Bulls came from behind to win 28-12 against the Stormers, scoring 28 unanswered points.

The Bulls rallied from an early deficit and thanks to the kicking of Pollard picked up their fifth win of the season to move eight points behind the Sharks.

Seeing the Stormers play with greater ambition was a welcome sight but that evaporated as the Bulls fought their way back into the contest.

South Africa’s worst side this season moved back to the bottom of the log after the Cheetahs’ losing bonus point against the Force, which is where they will stay. The number of injuries they have suffered is bizarrely high and they couldn’t match the physicality of their hosts as the contest wore on.

Juan de Jongh was in scintillating form in the first half, setting up the opening try for Kurt Coleman and then finishing well under pressure as the Stormers scored the only tries of the half.

Coleman’s score was created by a turnover from Nizaam Carr, Schalk Burger carrying the ball up and offloading to the exciting youngster Cheslin Kolbe. De Jongh then stepped a defender and drew the last man for Coleman to stroll over.

The Stormers’ lead felt against the run of play with the Bulls dictating territory, but it then got even better for Allister Coetzee’s beleaguered side.

Number over on the left created enough space for de Jongh to cut his way infield, reaching to dot the ball down just in time. More or less written off before kickoff, the Stormers lead 12-0 after 20 minutes.

The Bulls needed to respond and did so gradually through the boot of Handrè Pollard, the 20-year-old who will soon fly off to play for the Baby Boks.

Pollard knocked over three penalties and a drop goal to level the scores at 12-12 by half-time in a measured performance.

The kicking trend continued at the beginning of the second half as Pollard put the Bulls into the lead for the first time, knocking over his fourth penalty.

A scrappy period with both sides battling for territory ended with Pollard adding another three points, the lineout proving to be a source of struggle for the Stormers and Bulls.

Having taken the lead and created a little bit of daylight between themselves and the opponents, the Bulls landed a killer blow.

Akona Ndungane won the race to Francois Hougaard’s grubber kick, grounding the ball and with Pollard’s conversion the Bulls lead 25-12.

Jacques-Louis Potgieter came on for Pollard and added an extra three to the lead to extend his tally for the season since returning from France, with the Bulls now seemingly out of reach.

Damien de Allende was denied a try in the corner late on by a well-timed tackle from Jurgen Visser, who shone throughout, as the Stormers’ final opportunity went begging.

It marked the end of a match where the Bulls had impressed by the end, with the defence holding firm after the opening quarter whilst keeping the scoreboard moving. They were too smart, too physical, and won as a result.

The Stormers should do well in the coming CC Season!
    😆

I haven’t seen the Stormers play like they did in the 1st half since that game against the Blues in Auckland in 2000.

    At least we moving forward.

Got to get the balance right between defence and attack.

    307 @ Tuff Gong:
Playing like they did in the 1st half is not going to win the Stormers many games… they got 2 tries from turnover ball, and that was about it… the helter skelter game only takes you so far and no further.

On the ohter hand, the Bulls are also not playing a complete game, breakdown ball is a worry, unforced errors is a massive worry, the balance in the loosies is a massive negative.

Like you said, there has to be the right balance between defence and attack… but more than that, a team needs to be strong in ALL ASPECTS of the game and the ground ball battle is pivotal in becoming a complete side.

I dont think Matfield has ever been such a useful defender, I am just worried about JJ, he is not running with purpose like last year and looks extremely tentative, while Jan is giving it 110%

    @ Nama:

    @ grootblousmile:

I disagree. It wasn’t helter skelter in my opinion. Their was some good running off the ball and offloads that was anticipated by the players following up.

That was vintage WP Rugby. Which is a breathe of fresh air compared to the crap this team has been dishing out over the past few seasons.

A fit Steggies would solve your breakdown issues but its sad to say that the ship has already sailed.

By the way congrats on the win after our 12 point lead it felt like been crushed by a python.

But Etsebeth will be back soon and the Stormers will return to their forwards orientated game that suits them, what is the stormers win record without Eben since 2012?

  • 312

Since the start of 2012 the Stormers won 26 out of 44 games with a win record of 59%

When Eben plays the win record is 75% and without him it is 46%

    Such a phenomenal player

Good article this morning by Ian Smit on the back page of the Cape Times.

The gist of the article is to give Coleman a run till the end of the season.

Van Aswegan is a walking sick note, Catrakilis has been given a long run and does the basics of a flyhalf but that’s as far as it goes.

Coleman is an excellent distributor of the ball and was instrumental in those tries early in the game. His short comings are the lack of distance on his touch finders but I’m sure with a bit of practice he can overcome those issues.

    Throw the guy a bone.
