DHL Stormers Media Release

The full DHL Stormers injury report (14 April 2014):

  • Cilliers (rib), Van Vuuren (shoulder) and De Villiers (knee) are all available for selection this week.
  • Prop Oli Kebble (slight knock to knee) sat out of training this afternoon, but should definitely be available for selection.
  • Burger (quad muscle) and Kolbe (knee) both ran at 70% today and will be put through another fitness test on Tuesday. Kolbe is yet to play a match in 2014, after picking up an knee injury during pre-season training.
  • Kobus van Wyk (abductor muscle) is not available for selection this week.
  • Extended squad members, hookers Mike Willemse (sternum) and lock Tazz Fuzani (hip pointer), are not available for selection this week after picking up minor injuries on Vodacom Cup duty this past weekend.
  • Hookers Ntubeni (calf muscle) and Liebenberg (neck) will be available for selection after the Cheetahs game (in two weeks’ time).
  • Locks Eben Etzebeth (foot) and Manuel Carizza (wrist) will be back on deck in the middle of May. Etzebeth is yet to feature in 2014.
  • Locks Rynhardt Elstadt (shoulder) and De Kock Steenkamp (groin) – both of whom have undergone surgery again on their injuries – will not feature again in the 2014 Super Rugby tournament.

The DHL Stormers will host the Lions at DHL Newlands this Saturday (kick-off 17h05) and coach Allister Coetzee told www.iamastormer.com: “We’ve (all) had a good week off, ahead of our next seven-week cycle.

“We trained well this morning, you can see the guys have benefitted from the week. Of course, our focus is on this weekend and we’re determined to get back to winning ways.

“We’ve got nine matches left this season… of which seven are SA derbies, so it’s important to start this next phase of our campaign with a win. As you know, winning breeds confidence and you can see that with a team like the Western Force.”

    Will be good to see Jean on the field again, but doubt it will make a difference to the result.
    Lions in the top half of the log shouldn’t have too much trouble beating the team propping up the bottom.

    Gonna struggle to say something positive here… so I’ll rather leave it. :mrgreen:

    More curious to see the varsity cup talent step up in the vodacom cup team , glad we signed Robert Du Preez.

    Got to say I have to back the Stompies, the Lions success has hinged on Boshoff as they score less tries than even the Stompies and he had an off game last time around.

    The Lions average 1.38 Tries a game while the Stormers average 1.43.

    All indicators point to the Stormers grinding out a 10-7 win.

    @Macrobull 3
    Have to disagree with you here.
    The Cheetahs have scored much more tries than the Sharks, yet it’s highly doubtful that they will beat them on Saturday.
    Sharks are 1 on the log, Cheetahs 14, so by that token already they are not even close to getting the win.
    Likewise down in Cape Town, the Stormers should have no business beating any sides this year.
    Think the Lions should beat them, maybe not such a thrashing as we saw in round 1, but they should still win fairly comfortably.

    I know but the sharks have only conceded 8 tries this year and the Cheetahs have conceded 35.

    While it is not very likely the Stormers will score 15+ points, it still still possible the Stormers defense will be very good and they will be in Boshoffs face so that they concede less than 15 points.

    To summarize, this game will be even worse than the Lions vs Sharks game.

    The stormers will win. Relax guys.

    By Monday we will hear how most of the Stormer players must play for the boks. He he, ou storie!

    And we will hear how kak the Du Plessis brothers are. (agree on one)

    @ nortierd:
    Come on Nortie. The Lions are only in the top half because their kicker was better….so far. Do you really think they can beat us at Newlands.

    Their “winning” season is overs cadovers.

    @nama
    On current form it’s very likely.

    @Snoek
    The Stormer players who will make HM’s squad, will only be there on last year’s Bok form.
    Duane is playing himself out of Bok colors the way he is playing. Jean is still doing semi ok in a losing cause, but he has bigger problems, if Meyer is happy with Victor and selects him as captain, then Jean is finished with his international career.
    Eben should be a certainty when he is fit again, not sure there would be too many others.

    They won’t even need intervention on Saturday Nga, Stormers are capable of losing all by themselves.
