Better known as ‘Ligtoring’ to his teammates, the 27-year-old lock will join up with the Dragons squad before the start of the next European season to bolster Lyn Jones’ options in the tight five.

Landman, who can also pack down as blindside flank, played youth and senior rugby with the Leopards, before moving onto the Boland Cavaliers in 2011 and then making the change to play for Griquas in the 2012 Currie Cup.

Strong performances for the Griquas gave Landman the chance to showcase himself at Super Rugby level with the Cheetahs where he made 14 appearances in the 2013 super rugby season forming a strong partnership in the second row in the Cheetahs run to the play-offs.

The 18-cap Super Rugby lock is a strong ball carrier, good line-out operator and is mobile around the field.

On the signing of Landman, Jones commented: “I am delighted that we have recruited Rynard.

“Its another piece of the jigsaw and an important signing in the development of the region.

“He will offer size, strength and experience to the second row and will act as a catalyst in the growth of our current crop of young Welsh locks.

“Not only will Rynard will be a real physical presence in the pack but he will help to bring along Matthew Screech, Cory Hill and Joe Davies,” Jones added.

Landman becomes the regions seventh recruit for next season following the signings of props Boris Stankovich and David Young, hooker Rhys Buckley, lock Ian Gough, wing Aled Brew and fullback Lee Byrne.

Good for him. Good money playing for a good team in a good tournament.

    @ nortierd:
Dragons sitting 9th in the PRO12, played 18 won 6, Ospreys and Scarlets are well ahead of them the only Welsh region just below them is Cardiff Blues. Although it looks like Dragons have gone on a spending spree there for next season. Interesting to see they have lured Aled Brew and Ian Gough who both previously played for them back home. Lee Byrne also returning to Wales along with Brew from the bright lights of France. Lets see how they fair next season with their new recruits.

    @Bullscott
Yes, but it’s not as if the Cheetahs will end much higher than the bottom 4 in SR, and the Griquas are not even in the CC, so it’s actually a step up for him and he gets paid much more than what he would have earned in Kimberley

Yes it should be a step up in terms of money as you say nortierd, was just pointing out that from Dragons position this season they can hardly be called a good team. Maybe they improve next year with all their new purchases but then most of the other teams will be buying as well.

Thanks Bullscott, you are definitely more informed than me. I though Newport was one of the better teams.
My NH knowledge is very limited I’m afraid.

No worries nortierd it comes from me being over here, in the same way you know way more about Southern Hemisphere rugby now than I would. Newport Gwent Dragons not been the best of the Welsh regions for a while, for example since 2001/2002 season they have never won the PRO12/Magners/Celtic league while Llanelli Scarlets have won it once and Ospreys (from Swansea) 3 times . In fact the Ospreys helped me to a nice winning (one of very few) a few years ago when I did the accumulator of them winning the PRO12 and think it was Harlequins the Aviva Premiership. Shane Williams scored a try in the corner right at the end of the game which one the game and left me smiling 🙂

In that same time Cardiff Blues have been runners up twice

It seems like Louis Fouce isnt making the Vodacom Cup side, which is just because Tian Schoeman deserves a shot!

    8 @ MacroBull:
Yes MacroBull have read before some guys rating Tian Schoeman highly but have not seen him play. Blue Bulls got a good win last night against the Griffons – 49/10, we score 7 tries but only converted 4 of them, Schoeman converted 3 tries and kicked over 2 penalties, then it says Joshua Stander converted a try as well, don’t know much about Stander.
