Francois LouwSpringbok and Bath flank Francois Louw’s ankle injury does not require surgery, which means he will be able to play again this season.

There were fears that he would need to go under the knife and the recovery period would be long term, but Bath have now brushed off those reports.

The English Premiership club is hopeful that the 28-cap Springbok flank can play a part in their final four games of the regular season, as the fourth-placed side push to secure a semifinal spot.

Louw damaged his ankle ligaments in Bath’s 44-23 victory over London Irish on March 22, but massive amounts of swelling stopped prognosis being made before now.

“He could have had to have an operation and be out for the season, but luckily that’s not the case,” Bath head coach Mike Ford told the BBC.

“But we’re not sure when he’ll be back.”

“It will be a few weeks,” Ford added.

The 28-year-old Louw signed a new long-term deal with Bath last year, after first arriving at the Recreation Ground from Western Province in 2010.

Good news. He is irreplaceable for the Boks – especially while Brussow is not on Meyer’s radar.

So let’s not do the surgery now, let’s wait until it’s totally fukced and then do it?

Some times it’s better to do some “preventative maintenance” for the long term interests of a players career.

Hopefully my “insinuation”, is only a shot in the dark.
