Pieter-Steph du ToitCell C SharksPieter-Steph du Toit underwent a scan to his knee yesterday with the disappointing news that he sustained an ACL injury and will be out for the remainder of the year.

Sharks website release

The young lock sustained the injury to his anterior cruciate ligament at training on Thursday and the bad news was confirmed when he went for a scan later in the day to determine the extent of that injury to the knee ligaments.

His place in the starting line-up was confirmed yesterday, Stephan Lewies shifts from the bench to take over from du Toit, while his replacement on the bench has not been confirmed as yet.

Today’s youngsters not made of very stern stuff, and if they want to disagree, I contend that between Eben, Arno and PSdT together they hardly have a leg to stand on

  • 2

    Ai this is rough news.

No wonder HM wants Bakkies and Victor back for the WC
You can’t go to war with Barbie dolls, you need GI Joe

Snaaks, nooit gehoor dat die Bokke in die 60s ligamente skeur nie, hulle seker toe nie geweet daarvan nie!

  • 5

Another reason why PSDT should have gone to the Bulls, he may have been on the bench for a large part, but for good reason. Paul Willemse is going to dominate everyone by the next world cup.

    @ MacroBull:
Moenie vir Lewies weggooi nie…, watch hom more, dis nou sy groot kans.

  • 7

Damn that is bad news for Sharks. Hope Lewies steps up as think PSDT will be a huge loss to us.

    5 @ MacroBull:

Now why should he have gone to the Bulls? That is surely a daft statement bud as who knows if he would have picked up a injury there. This kind of thing happens and it is unfortunate it happened at training. Feel for him really do.

Just wait until you see Lewies after he has had more game time. He is a quality player Jake would not have had him there if he never rated him nor for that matter Brendon Venter that first picked him on the bench for the CC last year. Remember he was only playing for the U21s so if he has been picked for the Sharks SR team they rate him. Just at this very minute PSDT is better, but just see how Lewies goes with more game time. He is very good.

Puma, let me break the bad news for 2015 for you so long, better to get it out early so you can prepare for it ” PSdT gets injured and is out for the 2015 season”
Next year you just substitute the 5 for a 6 and repeat when needed.
When some of us said it’s good that Vic must come back because this laaitie hasn’t proven anything or played more than a handful of games to warrant all the hype, we were chastised, yet I stand by what I said.
Get back up locks if you want to keep him on your books, but don’t make long term plans around him and get someone else to learn and do the line out calls

    @ Puma:
I don’t understand, I never said Lewies is a bad player.

Sure injuries could happen anywhere and bad luck plays a factor.

I just think he should have come to the Bulls to learn from Vic and Flip and not Bresler 😛

Pity Lewies didn’t go to the Bulls, then he could have learnt from Victor and Flip

    and eben and Lood.

    Luckily Paul is learning 😛

    12 @ MacroBull:

Think he would rather be coached by Jake thanks. The best coach out there right now. So PSDT made the right decision to stay with the Sharks. Tounge-Out

    @ Puma:
You mean the guy who lost by a record score to the Aussies?

  • 18

    11 @ nortierd:
Lewies done the lineout calls playing u21 he can do it no problems. Right now it will be Kanko as he was superb doing that for us when we beat your Stormers in the 2012 SR semi final… Wink Happy-Grin

    @ Puma:
Lewies also from Namibia like Bressler, I think?
I must admit, I like Lewies a lot, reminds me a bit of Eben Etzebeth.

    Nortier @ 8

True…. Frik du Preez and those blokes were hardly ever injured… and they did not even use mouthguards, headgear, shoulder pads, Rib – protection devices, ball boxes etc…

They also did not do gym… in fact, i think they did not even warm up before the matches… they just played.

Daai goue Lambie beeldjie, wie se holgedeelte al blink gesoen is?

    Delighted

Oompie Puma, we’re just taking the mickey out of you…. hehehe

  • 22

    17 @ MacroBull:

The guy that won us a world cup yes that guy. The guy that beat the All Blacks in his first year as Bok coach at Ellis Park by 45 – 26 yes that guy. What was it you were saying again?????
    Pondering

  • 23

    @Pietman

The same guy who quit his job at the brumbies with an sms? that guy?

  • 25

    @ MacroBull:
@17 Ja, but that was because jaco vd westhuizen, Liefling and Pierre Spies were in that team, hehehehe! It was Pierre’s first cap incidentally.

If it’s Kanko, you still need a backup caller for that 10 minutes he spends in the bin
