Just watch AC defending Deon again next week.. he will blame the new locks, the lineout calling, the ball, the wind, the ocean swell, the rugby gods, the noisy crowd. etc..etc….. but never will he blame Deon.

  • 247

The number of unforced errors are absolutely ridiculous. If your hooker can’t throw the ball in straight or find his jumpers then you have the wrong hooker. If the coach can’t see that then you need a new coach. Plain and simple.

@ MacroBull:Yes, on rereading my comment, it seems I am going in the same direction as the Stormers! I meant his defence was solid – I was looking for any positive from the game!

The sevens boys are not doing too well against Aus

  • 249

233 @ nortierd:I think the scoreline shows how cr4p the Reds played, not that the Stormers pushed them close

    @ Stormersboy:

The most worrying aspect is that it has been going on for years.. i have long ago stopped counting the number of opportunities lost or points given away due to his inaccurate throwing.. it is surely impossible that AC/Proudfood etc cannot see this?? .. the fact that Liebenberg and Ntubeni are injured is no excuse… there are other players. I would go so far as to say that if AC took Fourie off at halftime we would have won.. absolutely ridiculous as u said, such stupidity and/or incompetence make a person sick.

  • 251

    @ robzim:
Yes we have been talking about it for years, as you say.

Pisses me off no end. Last year I was there when AC was doggedly defending against a barrage of questions from the press after almost every match.

Almost every journo that I spoke to, including guys like Rob Houwing and Gavin Rich who I got to know quite well feel exactly the same as we do.

    @ Stormersboy:

I guess our last hope is that Gert Smal can bring some sanity back to the place. Not sure whether he will have the authority to fire the current coaching staff though , the rumour I have heard is that they will continue for the duration of superrugby 2014 but be “phased” out during the currie cup …

This year can now for all practical purposes be written off… and the union will feel it where it hurts most as many supporters will probably stay away from newlands ..

    Next week will be interesting……

    @ Just For Kicks:
hehe thank you, that makes more sense

    @ robzim:
    @251
Smal endured two heart conditions, years of bultong, brandy and Coke took its toll on the big fella, he is in no condition to deal with both the Stormers and the WP Union’s cabal headed by Wakefield?
And I haven’t seen too many reputable rugby coaches queuing up to replace AC, have you seen one?
Blaming Fourie is just the easy way out joining the band wagon, this is rugby, let’s deal with the facts:
    1. The Reds had the two 1st Choice Wallabies locks to compete with in Simmons and Horwilll!
    2. The Stormers field a Flank in Rhodes and a ‘black diamond’ they unearthed out of the boondocks, I guess Fourie would have been blamed if Hilton Lobbert was drafted into the line up too?
    Wink

  • 255

    @ Hondo:
The Wallabie locks stared at him to through it in skew?

  • 256

    @Hondo
And all the previous times Fourie was just as shit when throwing in?
When the Stormers had Etzebeth and Bekker as a lock combination and he still failed to get the ball to them?
Nope, it’s not the only reason and excuse for the loss, but it plays a part.
The fact is Deon Fourie can’t feed a line out, and it doesn’t matter how much he wants to play hooker, they can’t afford to have him as a 2.

    @ robzim:

Yeah guys… been going on for years now… we try to be patient and understanding and give the benefit of the doubt and such and so on… but…
it really is time for all these chickens to come home to roost…
and like it or not… it IS the coaches that have to stand under perches and get shat upon…

we can’t blame deon for anything… he doesn’t select or coach himself… i really feel sorry for deon fourie… he really is a 100 per center … and is a very good flanker and fetcher…
and it must be a nightmare for him to go into a game like this knowing exactly what is going to happen… it must destroy him psychologically…
he’s better than that… and he deserves better than that…
all the players deserve better than that…

how many years have RF and AC not been able to organise an attacking game plan…?
how many years has MP not been able to organize a consistently decent and strong tight five…?
how many years has AC or RF not been able to teach pop-gun pete to punt a ball better than five-year-old kicking a pillow off his bed…?
how many years has MP not been able to teach deon to throw the ball in straight…?

why haven’t they got specialist consultants in like naas or calla scholtz for kicking… and uli schmidt or shaun pokey… or whoever… for throwing…
or why haven’t they contracted better players in these positions…?

how many years has AC let really great youngsters get away to star for other franchises while we default to and keep so many perpetual strugglers…? (with some exceptions of course)
how many years does AC come up with these hair-brained last minute “temps-R-us” signings while ignoring every player in that position in the western cape…?
chris jack, sireli, schalk britz, matt tumua, jeb, elton, the other hooker dude, takkie-that-can-bow… and more i’m sure…

i’ve always supported AC and actually like the guy… and RF and MP are good ous too…
but i really hope gert (if he is indeed appointed) brings a farking big broom with him and sweeps the whole coaching/management team off the stoep…

don’t waste time and wait for next year… do it now… so the new coach can build a relationship with the existing players and get to know their strengths and weakness… as well as start sourcing and contracting some of his own choices for next year…
i would rest jean for the rest of the season… save him and his body for the boks… maybe let him play the odd game…

i hope they give the reins to john dobbo… and bring in carel for some real attacking flair… hennie bekker and cobus visagie and shaun povey for tight forwards… rob louw and tiaan strauss for loosies, calla for kicking, michael for attitude… etc…

bring in guys from the golden 80s as mentors in each position to pass on their skills, experience and streetwise smarts and how-to-be-winners nous…

just farking do something and don’t just let things slide further into the longdrop… and don’t go the half measures route… wield the big axe now and let a new coaching team use the rest of this season to build towards a better next season…

of course I hate losing like we all do… but i can accept losing when we play positive, intelligent, attacking (with good defense) “fun” rugby… that the players feel great playing and the fans feel great watching…
if we did that we’d win more than we lose anyway…

john smit and jake white have done an amazing job at the sharks…
heyneke and frans ludeke have done an amazing job at bulls…
kevin de klerk and johan akkerman are doing amazing things at the lions…
even cheeky has done/is doing great things in PE…

just us and the cheetahs are sitting with our thumbs up our bums and our minds in neutral…

    okay… that’s my rant done…

    @ Hondo:

If they cannot get Brendan Venter/ Mallett/ or a foreigner I think John Dobson will do a much better job than AC.

He has paid his dues having won competitions at all levels he coached (Varsity cup, Vodacom, Under 21) and he knows the “politics” of rugby in the Western Cape as well as anybody else.

Re Fourie; .. it’s not a case of joining the bandwagon.. the issue has been pointed out numerous times over the last number of years ..see also Nortier’s rsponse above at #256 and Stormersboy earlier on.
